There is nothing superior to entering this state (referring to focused meditation), because through the Six Perfections (Paramita) and the Ten Bhumis, Buddhahood can be attained, and there is no other way to rely on besides this. The Bhagavan (Blessed One) has never taught in any scriptures such as the Sutras and Vinaya that there is a cause for attaining Buddhahood that is superior to this. If the meditation itself, which is non-mentation and non-recollection, includes the Six Perfections, then by practicing this meditation, all the Six Perfections will be cultivated in the continuum. Because this meditation can eliminate factors that contradict the Six Perfections. Therefore, even if we say that because other perfections such as generosity (Dana) do not have objects to be abandoned, there is no need to practice them separately, this is unreasonable. Because meditation itself includes the other Six Perfections, it is sufficient to only strive to practice the perfection of meditation. If this were the case, then for the purpose of offering to the Buddha, making a mandala out of cow dung and offering it, because it also includes the Six Perfections, we would only need to make a cow dung mandala. If so, it would lead to the conclusion that we do not need to practice meditation and other practices. If it is said that when abiding in meditation, factors that contradict the Six Perfections do not arise, so meditation can perfect the Six Perfections, then for the Sravakas' (Hearers) Nirodha-samapatti (Cessation Attainment), when they enter into that state, signs that contradict the Six Perfections, etc., will also not arise. Therefore, abiding in Nirodha-samapatti will also lead to the perfection of the Six Perfections. If this is the case, then Sravakas entering Nirodha-samapatti can also perfect the Six Perfections, therefore, it must be pointed out that there is no difference between those who enter Nirodha-samapatti and Bodhisattvas in terms of Mahayana and Hinayana, and there is no difference in the speed of attaining Buddhahood. Because the Six Perfections cannot be perfected by the perfection of meditation alone, it must be pointed out that Bodhisattvas must perfect each of the Six Perfections separately in all circumstances. Therefore, the Bhagavan taught that for each Paramita, one must learn everything in a way that includes all the other perfections, and not just rely on one perfection alone. Third, refuting the view that enlightenment can be attained through only one method: relying solely on emptiness (Sunyata) without the other perfections. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are many faults in not accepting (generosity, etc.), as stated in the 'Arya Extensive Dharma Sutra,' quoting from 'those actions will become very pure,' etc. Explaining the meaning of that sutra: Calling Maitreya (བྱམས་པ་, Maitreya, the Loving One), bodhisattvas diligently practice the six perfections (ཕ་རོལ་ཏུ་ཕྱིན་པ་དྲུག་, pharol tu phyin pa drug, six pāramitās) to perfectly accomplish them, and this is for the sake of attaining complete enlightenment (བྱང་ཆུབ་, byang chub, bodhi). However, foolish people say that bodhisattvas should only focus on studying the perfection of wisdom (ཤེས་རབ་ཀྱི་ཕ་རོལ་ཏུ་ཕྱིན་པ་, shes rab kyi pha rol tu phyin pa, prajñāpāramitā) that realizes emptiness (སྟོང་ཉིད་, stong nyid, emptiness), because the perfection of wisdom cuts off the root of afflictions—grasping at reality (བདེན་འཛིན་, bden 'dzin, grasping at truth)—thereby liberating from afflictions. What more is needed than that? Therefore, they say, what is the use of generosity and the other perfections? They disparage generosity and the other perfections. Calling Maitreya, Shakyamuni Buddha asked: 'What do you think? I, who was once King Śibi (པདྨ, Padma, Lotus) of Kāśika (ཀ་ཤི་ཀ་, Kāśika, an ancient Indian city), gave my own flesh to a hawk (བྱ་ཁྲ་, bya khra, hawk) in order to save a pigeon (ཕུག་རོན, phug ron, pigeon) that Viśvakarman had taken birth as. Was I a person of shallow wisdom?' Maitreya replied: 'Bhagavan (བཅོམ་ལྡན་འདས་, bcom ldan 'das, Blessed One), you were not a person of shallow wisdom.' Shakyamuni Buddha called out to Maitreya, saying, 'When I practiced the bodhisattva path in the past, I accumulated immeasurable roots of virtue (དགེ་བའི་རྩ་བ་, dge ba'i rtsa ba, roots of virtue) associated with the six perfections. Did those roots of virtue become an obstacle to my attainment of unsurpassed enlightenment?' Maitreya replied: 'Bhagavan, accumulating immeasurable roots of virtue does not obstruct enlightenment.' Shakyamuni Buddha called out to Maitreya, saying, 'You also perfectly practiced the perfection of generosity for sixty eons (བསྐལ་པ་, bskal pa, kalpa) in previous lives. Similarly, you perfectly practiced the perfection of wisdom for sixty eons. However, those foolish people say that there is only one way to attain enlightenment, and that is through emptiness.' They say this because they slander the two accumulations (ཚོགས་གཉིས་, tshogs gnyis, two accumulations), causing their actions to become impure. One cannot attain Buddhahood by relying solely on wisdom that lacks skillful means (ཐབས་, thabs, upāya). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
