Because it is declared in all the Sutra sections. 2-79 Regarding the need for discriminating wisdom, it is also declared in the Sutra Requested by Brahma, from 'The Bodhisattva named Brave Mind' requesting the Bhagavan to '...' end. The meaning of that Sutra is: If a Bodhisattva meticulously examines all internal and external dharmas with his mind, but does not grasp at characteristics, does not despise, and does not diminish, then that person is called a Bodhisattva. Again, add 'It is also said in that Sutra.' The meaning is: How does a Bodhisattva become diligent? The Buddha said: When one thoroughly examines the mind of omniscience with discriminating wisdom and does not fixate on any dharma. Also, in that Sutra, it is said that properly discriminating internal and external dharmas with wisdom is to have the intelligence to realize the true meaning. Again, from 'Also in that Sutra' to 'said' add. The meaning is: Those yogis discern internal and external dharmas with wisdom, just like illusions and mirages. 2-80 It is said, 'Discern in detail.' Therefore, in the Sutra Requested by Brahma, after hearing the words 'regarding inconceivable dharmas,' etc., some people think that they can realize reality only with the wisdom of hearing and thinking. In order to refute their arrogance, it is explained that merely thinking about dharmas with the wisdom of hearing and thinking does not realize reality as it is, but one must realize the reality of dharmas individually through the power of meditation. The meaning of the Sutra Requested by Brahma that you quoted is that, in order to refute improper superimposition and slander, it should be understood as refuting thinking about objects in the wrong way, not refuting correctly discriminating the objects to be cultivated with wisdom. If this is not the case, and it is thought that the Sutra is to prevent individual discriminating wisdom, then it will contradict many reasons and scriptures, as mentioned earlier. 2-81 If it is said that in the stage of hearing and thinking, one can use discriminating wisdom to distinguish, but in the time of practice, completely... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If someone asks: 'Is meditation not meditating on the meaning that has been investigated, but meditating in a way that does not attend to anything?' Answer: 'No.' Because whatever is realized by investigating with the wisdom arising from hearing and thinking, that (meaning) should be meditated upon with the wisdom arising from meditation. What is ascertained by hearing and thinking is not something other than meditation, because one must meditate on that which is ascertained by hearing and thinking. For example, just as one first points out the racecourse for a horse, and then runs freely on it. Therefore, one must meditate on what has been ascertained by hearing and thinking, so at the beginning of entering meditation, one should separately examine the meaning to be meditated upon with the wisdom of individual observation. If someone asks: 'If the mind of individual observation is conceptual thought, then how does non-conceptual wisdom arise from it?' Answer: Although the mind that individually observes the meaning ascertained by the wisdom of hearing and thinking is by nature conceptual, because it is the nature of attending to the state of affairs of knowable objects as they are, it is in accordance with the way of holding of non-conceptual wisdom, so it is unerring and in accordance with it. Therefore, by familiarizing oneself with the continuum of that mind, non-conceptual wisdom will arise from it, so in order to obtain non-conceptual wisdom, one should rely on the wisdom of individual observation. Although it is not familiarizing oneself with the aspect of attachment to the appearance of objects, but familiarizing oneself from the aspect of the way of holding of realizing selflessness. If someone asks: 'Then with what does one abandon the aspect of attachment and conceptual thought?' Answer: The aspect of conceptual thought that clings to the general meaning of objects as the self-characteristic of objects, also, by the power of repeated meditation, if the fire of true wisdom arises that becomes clearer and clearer, then one abandons it with that (fire of wisdom). For example, just as fire arises from two pieces of wood rubbing against each other and burns both pieces of wood, so too, the aspect of attachment will later be burned by the wisdom that makes objects clearer and clearer due to the power of meditation.' As (the Ratnakuta Sutra) says: 'Therefore, true and untrue, whatever is extremely familiarized, at the time of complete meditation, that clear non-conceptual wisdom is the result.' Thus, repeatedly familiarizing oneself with objects is the cause of the arising of a mind in which the appearance of objects is extremely clear, and the aspect of attachment and conceptual thought is that the object is not clear, so it is contradictory to the remedy of clarity, so it is reasonable to establish it as the opponent to be abandoned. The path of accumulation and the path of preparation (are practiced). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
