The way to attain samadhi is: After the yogi examines the mind, if he further examines what mind is distinguishing, then the nature of that mind cannot be determined either. As it is said: 'When the object to be analyzed is analyzed, the analyzer has no basis. Because there is no basis, it does not arise. Therefore, it is taught as unborn.' Like this, if the yogi completely examines the nature of any object to which the mind wanders and arises with higher insight (Tibetan: ལྷག་མཐོང་, Romanization: lhag mthong, Sanskrit: विपश्यना, Romanization: vipaśyanā, Literal meaning: superior seeing), then when the yogi cannot determine the object to which the mind wanders at any time, he completely examines all phenomena with higher insight and, like trees by the water, recognizes that they have no core, thereby freeing the mind from attachment to objects and the mind. When it is recognized that neither object nor mind is established, their dependants will also naturally become pacified. Therefore, from that time on, there will be no more distinctions of existence and non-existence, and the mind will abide in the emptiness of the nature of reality. Thus, one attains samadhi that is free from all elaborations and without the signs of grasper and grasped. Third, citing the source of knowledge. Thus, by completely cutting off all that should be negated and meditating, one attains signless yoga. As it is said, from the Holy Cloud Jewel Sutra, it also says, all the way to 'entering yoga.' This is the content of the sutra. Explaining the meaning of the sutra is: Thus, in order to eliminate the fault of mistaking the grasper and grasped as two, the wise should cut off the grasper and grasped, and practice emptiness yoga in order to be free from all elaborations. The yogi, through practicing emptiness meditation very frequently and for a long time, if he completely seeks the nature of any object to which the mind wanders and in which joy appears with reason, such as one and many, he will recognize that it is empty. This shows the yoga of not abiding in the grasped object. Any mind that is the grasper, if it is distinguished by reason, will also recognize that it is empty. This shows the yoga of not abiding in the grasper. That with which the mind is distinguished, if it is completely sought with the wisdom that thoroughly analyzes the nature, it will also recognize that it is empty. This shows the yoga of recognizing that the antidote is also indiscernible. The Indian saint said: 'When searching for a jewel with a lamp and finding it, do not be attached to the lamp.' This is the same principle. Object and grasper, and The way to attain samadhi is: After the yogi examines his mind, if he further examines what mind is distinguishing, then the nature of that mind cannot be determined either. That is what is said. Explaining the meaning of this passage is: Therefore, in order to eliminate the error of mistaking the actor and acted upon as dual, the wise should cut off the actor and acted upon, and practice emptiness meditation in order to be free from all complexity. The yogi, through practicing emptiness meditation very frequently and for a long time, if he completely seeks the nature of any place to which the mind wanders and in which joy appears through reasoning, such as one and many, he will recognize that it is empty. This shows that the yogi does not cling to the object that is grasped. Any mind that is the actor, if it is distinguished through reasoning, will also recognize that it is empty. This shows that the yogi does not cling to the actor. The thing that is used to distinguish the mind, if it is completely sought through the wisdom that thoroughly analyzes the nature, it will also recognize that it is empty.
