When walking, do not eat your own food, do not wear clothes, you should not meditate and abide. When the thought of meditating arises, you can eat and you can wear clothes. Coming here from southern Nepal, eat a little meat and wear warm clothes, he said. The way to abide in one's own state is, if you practice in these two ways and your virtuous deeds are uninterrupted, then abide in that state. By practicing in this way, three times will occur: the time of suffering, the time of happiness, and the time of merit. First, the time of suffering is when the karmic imprints awaken, causing external poverty and distress, and the mind becomes distracted. Internally, the essence of the bodhicitta (Tibetan: བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་ཀྱི་ཐིག་ལེ་) increases, causing attachment and clinging to external objects to increase. At that time, do not break your vows, but make great effort, pray to the lama and yidam, pray to the Three Jewels, and dedicate a portion of your wealth to the Dharma. This will transform into the samadhi of great bliss, all external suffering will be pacified, and all internal attachment and clinging to external objects will disappear, and you will continuously abide in the state of bliss and emptiness. This will give rise to countless samadhis, vast clairvoyance, and wisdom will arise regarding all ultimate and conventional truths. The dakinis of the twenty-four realms will bestow siddhis, you will hear the Dharma from countless Buddhas, and you will be able to ripen countless sentient beings. The diligent one will become a Buddha in this lifetime. This is the establishment of the arising of tummo. From the Great Vehicle's 'Army of Nectar Dispelling Obstacles,' the essential points are profound and can cut through conceptual thoughts, it is the ninth chapter on meditating on tummo. Then, the teaching on clear light: since from the beginning it is only clear light, the method for holding it is taught. Clear light is the nature of mind, which from the beginning is without arising, spontaneously accomplished without thought, that is called clear light. The clear light of the mind that grasps is not clear light. One great meditator said to the Dharma Lord, 'I have realized clear light.' When asked what it was like, he said, 'In my dreams, everything is white stupas.' 'Clear light is not stupas,' he said and scolded him. The genuine clear light is the nature of mind, unborn from the beginning.

I am the clear light itself. All of samsara and nirvana abide in it, it is the clear light of self-nature. When sentient beings realize it, it is the clear light of realization. When it appears in dreams, it is the clear light of dreams. Dying in that state is the transference of clear light. When it arises in the bardo, it is the clear light of the bardo. Reaching the ultimate after abandoning the three obscurations is the ultimate clear light. If you want to grasp the clear light in dreams, have faith and devotion to the lama. Offer with immeasurable clouds of offerings. Offer body and possessions without any attachment. Generate the strength of devotion from the depths of your heart and bones. Offer a mandala, and pray to the precious lama, "Please let me grasp the clear light." Pray earnestly. Meditate in a place where the sound of water is loud, awareness is clear, and it is cold, etc., meditating in light sleep. If there is no strength of virtuous practice during the day, you will not be able to grasp the clear light at night, so cut off all the elaborations of busyness and distraction, and abide in virtuous practice. Also, by practicing tummo during the day, evening, and noon, you can grasp the clear light, like a hero with arms. The time of dawn is the time for virtuous practice, and the body and mind are all at rest. A time to go to sleep will come. That time is when the time is ripe. Pray to the lama. Generate bodhicitta. Visualize the body as the body of the yidam deity. Visualize the inside of the abdomen as empty and clear. Then, below the navel, on top of a lotus, visualize a red sun disc, hot to the touch, filled with light. On top of that, visualize the nature of the Sixth Vajradhara. The essence of co-emergent being. Complete with ornaments and attire. Having the splendor of a million suns. Think of it as a mass of light and meditate single-pointedly. External appearances cease. Until you fall into deep sleep, act with non-conceptual activity. At that time, connect with previous memories and desires, and like threading a needle, fix your mind on the luminous lama.
