When asked, "Who do they follow?" they replied, "Some follow the virtuous deeds of the deceased, because they do not know they have died. When those who remain perform virtuous deeds, they feel as though they are helping, and this is following the virtuous deeds of the deceased. If they know they have died, then it is not following the virtuous deeds of the deceased, but rather the virtuous deeds follow the deceased. When those who remain perform virtuous deeds for the sake of the deceased, it awakens the dormant seeds of negativity in the deceased's consciousness through virtuous actions, thereby bringing about the fruition of good thoughts." When asked, "When meditating in a secluded place, sometimes one feels oppressed. Is this due to the activity of the channels and winds, or is it oppression from local deities and the like?" they replied, "It is not local deities. When such a thing occurs, it is because the wind and mind are surging upwards, so the hands involuntarily press against the heart. When Rinpoche Dhey Chung was in retreat, many visions of upturned cow hooves appeared in the place where he went to relax, and then they seemed to dissolve into his body. He knew that this was caused by sleeping on his back, so it did not happen when he sat. To prevent such occurrences, the key is to extend the visualization of the three guidances outwards from the body." When asked, "Please explain the recognition of how the key points of the three vows—outer, inner, and secret—are combined with Suchness," they replied, "The Pratimoksha vow is to turn away from the root of all harm to others. What causes harm? Engaging in the ten non-virtuous actions harms oneself and others, so one must abandon the ten non-virtuous actions and cultivate the ten virtuous actions. This is the Pratimoksha vow. On top of that, performing the ten virtuous actions with the intention of benefiting others is accumulating virtue. Benefiting sentient beings is the Bodhisattva's discipline of morality. Having received empowerment in Secret Mantra, one must also keep the samayas. The Vajra Body samaya, from the aspect of the body, is to not take life, not steal, and not engage in sexual misconduct. The Vajra Speech samaya, from the aspect of speech, is to abandon lying, slander, idle talk, and harsh words. The Vajra Mind samaya, from the aspect of mind, is to abandon covetousness, malice, and wrong views. Therefore, the key point of these three is to cultivate virtue and abandon non-virtue, which is the outer key point. If one practices these three in this way, it is the inner...

The single method for generating Samadhi is the inner key point. Abiding in inner Samadhi and the senses not following objects, it is the method for generating all the qualities of Secret Mantra, so it is the secret key point. As the single method for realizing the spontaneously co-emergent wisdom, therefore, it is the key point of Suchness, so it is said. Just as virtuous thoughts must be taken as the key point, if one abides in Mahamudra for a long time, must that also be taken as the key point? He replied: If you abide in that way, you will traverse all the grounds and paths with it. Because it is what is to be accomplished, strive to make the non-abiding abide, the abiding stable, and the stable increasingly improve. When virtuous thoughts arise in the alaya, how do non-virtuous thoughts remain? He replied: When one arises, the other remains dormant. What is the reason that King Loving gave alms to five Yakshas with the power of love, and later the Five Hundred of the Auspicious Aeon appeared? He replied: It was giving the cause of the three convergences of dependent arising. By saying, "You should rejoice greatly in this," satisfying them with the flesh and blood of the body is giving, permanent laws and so on are meaningful conduct, and naturally pure nature is meaningful agreement. He gave the cause of perfection and made aspirations, so he appeared in the initial retinue and drank the nectar of Dharma. In the Paramitas, the body is impure, mindfulness is closely established, and in Secret Mantra, the body is visualized as a deity. What is the difference in the way qualities are generated in these two? He replied: By establishing mindfulness on impurity, one can also abandon attachment to the ordinary body. By visualizing as a deity, one can also reverse attachment to the ordinary body and so on. And, establishing mindfulness on impure substances, and visualizing as a deity, both are methods of generating Samadhi without attachment internally, without following the senses after objects. From that perspective, the way qualities are generated is the same, and both are methods of realizing co-emergent wisdom. Thus, all these limbs are spoken by the Buddha for the sake of wisdom. Therefore, to pacify suffering, one should generate wisdom. So it is said. Initially, with the union of action, surpassing the ground.
