I practice, then dedicate, saying that these three things must be done. That is also practiced in accordance with the two Bodhicitta minds. Here, if my two Bodhicitta minds do not agree, I will not transmit it to you. For the benefit of all sentient beings, self and others, and for showing the means of happiness, there is no doubt or hesitation in speaking about it, and it is important to do it like a bird getting manure. Furthermore, in the presence of the precious Lord of the World, it is said that of the three, hearing, thinking, and meditating, or all the actions and deeds related to them, the main thing to do, and the auxiliary things to do, are two kinds: those who listen only understand the main points of each scripture, but in order to practice it, there are armies, barriers, and countless classifications, so one must practice its aspects. If one does not understand the main points of each scripture, one will increase faults, but if one understands, it will become merit. If one thinks from the perspective of contemplation, one should contemplate the meaning of death and impermanence, and the two selflessnesses. Because this thought arises, one will understand that all actions are to be abandoned and are meaningless, and such a realization will arise. If one does not give up this life, one will be like ants accumulating food, not cherishing discipline, harming sentient beings, and having a strong tendency to cling to self, so one will have strong attachment to the five aggregates, wealth and possessions, relatives and friends, and not cherishing the teachings of the Tathagata, it is impossible to realize the meaning of the two selflessnesses. Here, the core task of great practitioners is meditation itself. Enhance wisdom with the roots of virtue of skillful means, and enhance skillful means with the roots of virtue of wisdom. That is, for meditation that has not arisen, one must make it arise; for that which has arisen, one must make it stable; for that which is stable, one must make it increasingly improve; one must not allow demons to enter, and one must dispel those that have entered, these four are necessary. Or, relying on the blessings of the Lord of the World, it appears all at once, this is the fifth. Regarding this, here are the methods for making meditation arise. It is best to have signs and indications of purification of sins appear through the recitation of the mandala and the Hundred Syllable Mantra. The middle is to have completed the number of one hundred thousand and one million recitations. The lowest is also fifteen days. In this way, after having practiced, one can begin to meditate. That is also divided into three: superior, intermediate, and inferior. The superior is hearing the name, the intermediate is seeing the face, and the inferior is receiving guidance.
