That which enables one to understand and follow accordingly is Dharma. In general, when individuals themselves understand what is Dharma and what is not, and when even the lama cannot change that, then one truly follows the Dharma with wisdom. Furthermore, the precious lama said: The Dharma of the Tathagatas residing in the past, future, and present, in the ten directions and three times, is dependent origination. This dependent origination is free from the eight extremes of elaboration, and the dependent origination free from the eight extremes is the dependent origination of cause and effect that arises in dependence on conditions. These two dependent originations, at the time of the basis sentient beings, at the time of practicing the path of yoga, and at the three stages of ultimately attaining Buddhahood, are inseparably united as the nature. And that nature is also one cause and effect like the sky. Because there is dependent origination free from the eight extremes, it arises as the dependent origination of cause and effect in dependence on conditions. That cause and effect also abides by nature as free from the eight extremes. That which is free from the eight extremes is dependent origination, to which the teacher Arya Nagarjuna said: Whoever's dependent origination, is without cessation, without arising, without annihilation, without permanence, without coming, without going, neither different nor the same, pacifies all elaborations, the peaceful teaching, to the supreme one of the Buddhas, I prostrate. Thus he spoke. That which is free from the eight extremes arises as the dependent origination of cause and effect in dependence on conditions, that is, the ocean of suffering of samsara also arises as the conditions are. The three aspects of Nirvana and enlightenment also arise as the conditions are, so all phenomena of samsara and nirvana arise as the dependent origination of conditions. Moreover, do not think that all phenomena exist externally, such as the abode of the thirty-three gods or the victorious palace, or the hellish realms of sentient beings or the ground of burning iron, etc., all of these do not exist externally. They appear as one's own mind perceives them. For example, the appearance of three visions in the Ganges River also appears as the inner mind perceives it. In the water,

There is no faith. Therefore, if one does not understand the dependent arising free from extremes of elaboration and the dependent arising of cause and effect, there is no way to practice Dharma. The view of external non-Buddhists is that they believe in a self (ātman, ātman, 我) that is permanent, singular, and independent, and they hold onto the five aggregates as self or belonging to self. Moreover, regarding this view of holding onto permanence, singularity, and independence, before the Buddha appeared in the world, the six teachers and thirty-two views (should be six teachers and eighteen views) of the non-Buddhists had already expounded it, and everyone held onto that view. This permanence is such that humans are born as humans when they die, and horses are born as horses when they die; they do not want to follow the law of cause and effect. After the Buddha appeared in the world, he taught the dependent arising free from the eight extremes of elaboration as an antidote to holding onto the five aggregates as self or belonging to self. He taught the dependent arising of cause and effect as an antidote to permanence, singularity, independence, and not wanting to accept cause and effect. In Varanasi, the first turning of the wheel of Dharma of the four noble truths in the Vinaya Pitaka was the teaching of the dependent arising of cause and effect. The dependent arising of cause and effect in samsara is taught as the truth of suffering and the truth of origin. This is included in the precepts that the Tathagata prohibited. The cause and effect of nirvana is the truth of the path, or the noble eightfold path, and the result is the truth of cessation. These two are included in the precepts to be practiced. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, also has no other Dharma to teach other than dependent arising. The dependent arising free from the eight extremes of elaboration is like the body's faculties. The dependent arising of cause and effect is like the faculties of the eyes, etc. Even if there are no faculties such as the eyes, one cannot see forms. Similarly, even if there are no five faculties, one cannot cognize the five objects, so there is no need for the body. Similarly, even if one realizes the dependent arising free from the eight extremes of elaboration, if one does not accept the dependent arising of cause and effect, one cannot bear a great burden. However, holding this philosophical view is not non-existent. This is also the philosophical view of Lord Gampopa. This is also the philosophical view of the students. The glorious Phagmo Drupa also taught this philosophical view for six years while residing in Nub.
