etc., one cannot be liberated from this beginningless and endless ocean of suffering in samsara. If one performs virtuous deeds in the three stages of beginning, middle, and end, then it is the mind without the three poisons and the manifestation of the actions of that mind. Therefore, whatever one does, whether it is giving, keeping the precepts, or the activities of the Sangha, one should first examine the intention. If the intention is impure and there is a mind of the three poisons, then it cannot be accomplished. That will become the karma of the afflictions, which will cause both self-harm and harm to others. If the intention is a mind without the three poisons, then that action must be manifested, because the mind without the three poisons is perfected by the actions of body, speech, and mind, and thus becomes enlightened in the nature of that mind without the three poisons, and the manifestation of the actions of that mind becomes the inexhaustible treasury of the wheel of ornaments of body, speech, and mind. May all sentient beings, as vast as the sky, have happiness and be free from suffering, and be placed in the unsurpassed enlightenment, which arises spontaneously and continuously. This is wonderful, it is a marvelous Dharma. There is not even a trace of the mixture of afflictions in this. The manifestation of the actions of body, speech, and mind, distinguished by the mind of the three poisons and that mind, is unwholesome in the three stages of beginning, middle, and end. The manifestation of the actions of body, speech, and mind, distinguished by the mind without the three poisons and that mind, is virtuous in the three stages of beginning, middle, and end. When you understand this, you will know how to practice the Dharma yourself, so apart from following this principle to do all actions, if someone says that the lama or khenpo is a Buddha, in order to obtain his son, or in order to please the lama, you should think, 'Alas, the lama wants me to look at him as if he were a Buddha, but he does not listen to me.' If the lama tells you to do something that is not in accordance with the Dharma, then do not do it. You should say, 'I wish you good health,' and then leave. Because the Bhagavan also said that for parents, lamas, and khenpos, etc., do not break the words that are in accordance with the Dharma.

Apart from what has been promised, it is not right to listen without discernment, regardless of whether it is reasonable or not. If someone says something that is not in accordance with the Dharma, and then says, "This might be the path of dependent origination," and follows it, that is following ignorance. It is also necessary to follow a person with faith, but if that is not related to following the Dharma with wisdom, then it will not work. Some teachers are false teachers. It is difficult not to break vows with such false teachers. A false teacher is like garlic and a poisonous tree; if you revere him, the world will be covered by illegality; if you associate with him, the three poisons of affliction will increase; if you trust him, he will cut off the lifeline of liberation. The king of demons is disguised as a teacher. Flee from such an executioner, as the Buddhas and teachers have said, and escape into the forest. If you ask what you should do, how can others deceive you when you are able to understand Dharma and non-Dharma? In the past, the leader of five hundred Brahmins taught his retinue that stealing was Dharma, and all but one accepted it. It is said that the only one who did not listen to that teaching was the Tathagata. Therefore, without understanding Dharma and non-Dharma, following any teaching of a false teacher will lead to self-destruction and the destruction of others, like the story of the monkeys trying to pull the moon out of the water. Therefore, one must follow the Dharma with wisdom. Whoever says that Dharma is Dharma and non-Dharma is non-Dharma, one should follow that. If someone teaches the opposite, even if he is a teacher, he should be abandoned. Just as one takes honey from a thorny tree without being pricked by the thorns, one should accept good words even from an enemy; just as one does not drink poisonous water flowing from a golden mountain, one should abandon the words of even a beloved person if they lead to attachment and aversion. If you ask what you should do, just as there is honey on a thorny tree, and you take the honey without being pricked by the thorns, you should accept good words even if they are spoken by an enemy; just as you do not drink poisonous water flowing from a golden mountain, you should abandon the various words of your relatives or loved ones if they cause attachment and hatred. Therefore, understand Dharma and non-Dharma, and follow it.
