As it appears, both samsara and nirvana manifest. Ordinary beings grasp at the apprehended and the apprehender. The Shravakas view illusions like mirages. Solitary Realizers are like birds chased by people. Bodhisattvas see dreams as pleasure gardens. Buddhas know the peace of the cessation of elaboration. It is said that the mind is emptiness, but without realizing this, ordinary beings grasp at the duality of the apprehended and the apprehender, thus wandering in samsara. It is like deer mistaking mirages for water where there is none. Shravakas, not having established the four truths, grasp at them and wander in samsara. Like a bird fleeing from a person, Solitary Realizers grasp at the twelve links of dependent origination and wander in samsara. Like a dream pleasure garden that is perfect, Bodhisattvas generate bodhicitta, accumulate merit, and grasp at attaining enlightenment. Buddhas abandon these grasps and realize freedom from all elaboration, thus becoming Buddhas. If one thinks that everything is emptiness, then is there no cause and effect? It is not so. Emptiness arises as dependent origination of cause and effect. This is called cause and effect like the sky. All the roots of virtue on the white side, which are the manifestations of the actions of body, speech, and mind, are the inexhaustible wheels of adornment of body, speech, and mind. All non-virtue is destroyed by it. However, even up to the state of Buddhahood, traces of it appear. Things like thorns stuck in wood and healing injured horses also arise as cause and effect from the emptiness of the mind itself, which is unborn from the beginning. Without realizing the mind, one cannot abandon samsara. If one realizes it, then in the moment of realization, one has already abandoned samsara. Therefore, even having doubts makes samsara powerless. Having doubts about this, etc. It is said that realization abandons samsara, what more needs to be said? This realization depends on devotion, so praying not to be separated from devotion to the protector of the world is Dharma.

The one who has not descended is the teacher, and the self-mind that appears here is the father tongue of this lineage. The self-nature of thought is the unique dharma of the Dharma Lord. The self-mind that appears is like a sharp sword piercing the heart. The self-nature of thought is like that which is powerful and extends outward. Therefore, the self-nature of thought means that whatever thought arises in the mind will transform into its self-nature. Yogis, realized beings, or non-humans who roam in the sky can see its body. Those who are not like that find it difficult to see. If you understand this, you will be skilled in the means of accomplishing all the happiness and goodness of this world. You will be skilled in the means of taking rebirth in any world you desire from this world. Therefore, you must understand this. This can also be divided into two types: the self-nature of momentary thought and the self-nature of transference of consciousness. If you understand the self-nature of momentary thought, you will be skilled in the means of eliminating all the diseases, harms, and sufferings of this world, and accomplishing the five perfections, etc. For example, the leper with rotting roots, the mute, the venerable Lavapa, the Shanglung robber Sharmo, and the Upasaka of Yortopa saw together the body of that thought or the self-nature of that thought. It is not outside. If you understand the self-nature of transference of consciousness, you will be skilled in the means of taking rebirth in the place where you desire to be reborn, whether it is the Western Pure Land of Sukhavati, the Eastern Pure Land of Abhirati, or Tushita, etc. This is the transference of consciousness in meaning. If you understand this, even if you go to the bedside of a dying patient, the yogi can cause him to be reborn in the Brahma world and show the samadhi of loving-kindness. Therefore, at that time, he should be made to meditate on the thought that is the cause of his rebirth in a perfect place. However, one practices loving-kindness but does not know what loving-kindness is. Therefore, one must properly obtain the key points of loving-kindness from a qualified lama, and a person who has experience of loving-kindness and recognizes loving-kindness should generate the samadhi of loving-kindness in the mind of the dying person from whatever aspect is suitable for arousing loving-kindness.
