From then on, because one wishes to attain the fruit—the truth of cessation, therefore, the absence of craving means no rebirth. Without desire, there is nirvana. This was said. The mind without the three afflictions, because it is cultivated with the desire for the Bodhi of a Shravaka, attains that fruit. Secondly, the Pratyekabuddha also sees this samsara as suffering, and also sees that due to ignorance, from action to old age and death, samsara arises. Because of cultivating the antidote to delusion—dependent origination, it is seen that samsara can be abandoned. From the reversal of the law of dependent origination, ignorance ceases, and from action to old age and death all cease, thus attaining the fruit—the Bodhi of a Pratyekabuddha. That is also because the mind without the three afflictions is cultivated with the desire for the Bodhi of a Pratyekabuddha, it is attained. Among them, the Shravakas realize the absence of self of the person when they grasp the five aggregates as "I" or "mine," that is the absence of self of the person. The Pratyekabuddhas, on top of that, also realize half of the absence of self of phenomena, it is said: Because of abandoning the conceptualization of the object of grasping, and because of not abandoning the grasping, therefore, that is like the path of a rhinoceros horn. It is said that not abandoning the grasping is named grasping in the continuum of the Samadhi of the path of meditation of the Pratyekabuddha. Bodhisattvas, on the other hand, cultivate with the mind without the three afflictions, with the Bodhicitta. There are three types of Bodhicitta: like a captain, like a companion, and like a shepherd. The Bodhicitta like a captain is the desire to attain Buddhahood first, and then to place all sentient beings in the state of Buddhahood. The Bodhicitta like a companion is the desire for oneself and all sentient beings to attain Buddhahood at the same time. The Bodhicitta like a shepherd is the desire to first place all sentient beings in the state of Buddhahood, and then to attain Buddhahood oneself. Among them, the intention of the Lord of the World (Avalokiteshvara) is the Bodhicitta like a companion, desiring that oneself and all sentient beings simultaneously attain unsurpassed Bodhi. The Venerable Jamyang (Manjushri), on the other hand, has the Bodhicitta like a shepherd, desiring to first place all sentient beings in the state of Buddhahood, and then to attain Buddhahood oneself.

At the very beginning of generating the mind of enlightenment, I do not rejoice in becoming a Buddha in a quick path to enlightenment. Even in the final, ultimate eon, I will act for the sake of one sentient being. Thus it was said. Someone said: The venerable Manjushri is a bodhisattva of great desire, but that is not the case. A person of great desire is one who clings to the edge of samsara and does not want to attain enlightenment forever. The venerable Maitreya also said that there are two who do not attain enlightenment forever: one is to entrust equally to the Dharma, and the second is the person of great desire. Thus it was said. Therefore, that of the venerable Manjushri is not a great desire. Thus, after generating the mind of enlightenment in the unsurpassed enlightenment, the three times of long, medium, and short are blessed. All the actions of body, speech, and mind are completed by generating the mind of enlightenment, and everything becomes the sole cause of the perfect Buddha. If it goes like that, then the three of body, speech, and mind are used for virtue, and there is no use for non-virtue. If all virtues become the cause of perfect enlightenment, then it is reasonable. If it is said that non-virtue turns into enlightenment, then non-virtue turns into virtue, which is not reasonable. It is true that the three of body, speech, and mind are used for virtue. However, the three non-virtues of attachment, hatred, and ignorance, even attachment is inseparable from emptiness, which is without attachment. Hatred is also inseparable from emptiness, which is without hatred. Ignorance is also inseparable from emptiness, which is without ignorance. What is the nature of emptiness without attachment, is it virtuous or non-virtuous? Similarly, is emptiness without hatred and emptiness without ignorance virtuous or non-virtuous? Thinking about that, isn't it said that attachment, hatred, and ignorance are the lineage of the Thus-Gone One? Isn't the very nature of attachment, emptiness without attachment, called the ultimate mind of enlightenment? When it is distinguished by the conventional mind of enlightenment, with this samadhi in which the two minds of enlightenment are inseparable, one attains unsurpassed enlightenment, and taming those who are to be tamed, this is wonderful, it is a marvelous Dharma. There, there was someone with a similar idea to that of the old monk, a friend of Yarlungpa, Ka.
