With compassion in mind, he regarded all beings as his own children; he never sought repayment or counted favors for bearing all hardships and burdens; monks and others bravely shouldered responsibilities and willingly endured hardships, regarding them as precious jewels on their heads; he did not eat sour porridge with added oil; he never loosened his belt except when changing his undergarments; he wore old and worn-out undergarments; a close attendant reported: there are only this much food and wealth left, please have a little. The master replied: what do you see that I have? I need to support the Sangha. For those who are already wealthy, he would not add flowers to the brocade; for the poor, he would not let them starve to death; he would not fill the patrons' bags; he would not repay offerings; he would not waste anything that had not been offered; he had great respect for practitioners, even showing the utmost respect to dogs; he regarded attendants and officials as gurus; in general, he treated all the Sangha as if they were the real Buddha; he paid homage to all the elder monks; he prostrated to the young Bhikshu Sangha; he would rise to greet the fourfold Sangha; he would respectfully welcome even a single word of Dharma; he would never be separated from the guru and Buddha images for even a moment. To please the Sugata, he practiced pure conduct. When a painter came to draw an image of the Tathagata, light radiated forth. The painter asked: at that time, is it still necessary to draw the image? The master replied: this teacher, who possesses great compassion, is very kind to protect this degenerate world, I dare not leave him for even a moment. He taught: do not violate the precepts of refuge. Therefore, just as all rivers flow into the great Muni and the ocean of merit, just as swans gather in a lotus lake, countless disciples gathered. From the perspective of offering, the way of offering is that he did not make small stoves, small pots, small portions, or other delicious foods, but offered according to the ordinary diet of the Sangha, and did nothing else. In the monastery...

While residing, he abandoned pride and arrogance, acting like a lowborn person, willingly accepting all tasks, both inferior and superior. Such as cleaning latrines, dusting off ashes, and properly consuming the leftover food of the ordained monks. Having attained great strength, he carried the heavy burdens of both inferior and superior beings without complaint or fatigue, whether openly or secretly. He never neglected the virtuous conduct practiced by those who diligently study, contemplate, and meditate on the Buddha's teachings. Thinking that being a thief, profiteering, plowing fields, or herding sheep would not generate the merits of study, contemplation, and meditation, he diligently practiced great alms-seeking and possessed the virtues of alms-seeking. Abandoning farming and dwelling is the son of the Victorious One, living by begging is the alms-seeker who seeks food. If one does not stay in one place for long, what can we juniors do for such a great being? Furthermore, when teaching the Dharma in the assembly of monks, he said: "Monks, in the summer, sew a coarse cloth garment, as humidity easily enters the body and is very difficult to remove once contracted. In the winter, gather firewood. If a fire breaks out in this great forest while people are borrowing fire from each other, those of you who are nimble will be safe, but I will be exhausted." The monks did not enjoy idle chatter. (The master) said: "That pile of wood from yesterday, it is still the same pile of wood today." Generate great diligence and meditate diligently. This ocean of suffering in samsara is extremely frightening. Those who cannot meditate at all should circumambulate the stupa. If you cannot even do that, then throw stones at my hut!" Once, a Khampa guest owed money for tea. My friend went to chase after him, but the guest was in a hurry to leave and lay across the doorway on horseback. This was reported to the Blissful Departed (the master), who said: "Taklungpa, take a broom and sweep the sky of the hut with gold foil, and then see if you can sweep the ground." When he swept the ground and looked, the thirteen ounces of gold that the guest owed appeared without any shortage. All the attendants thought: "How amazing that the master has mastered the treasury of the sky!"
