Therefore, it is necessary to have a firm conviction that the lama is a truly and completely enlightened Buddha. Think to yourself, "My lama must be the true Buddha." Offer with immeasurable clouds of offerings. Offer your body, possessions, power, and authority, as well as all lands and kingdoms. If there is anything like a flower intended for the merit of generating bodhicitta at this time, please accept my offering. Again, generate the perception of the lama as a Buddha, offer with all the clouds of offerings, and pray. Please hold a flower in your hand and repeat after me. Master, please listen. Master Bodhisattva, please accept me as a Bodhisattva. This is the method. Very good!" Thus he spoke. The protector of the three realms, the precious lama, said, "In general, this Dharma must be understood. If you wonder what Dharma is to be understood, it is that none of us will remain in this world for long; it is impermanent. Even conditioned things, by their very nature of change, are impermanent. The wise should know that all things are subject to destruction." Thus he spoke. Therefore, one does not know whether tomorrow or death will come first, nor whether the day after tomorrow or death will come first. Who knows if one will die tomorrow? One should seize the day. The great army of death is not my friend. Thus he spoke. Therefore, there is no certainty when one will die, and there is no time to spare in life; one will surely die. If you wonder whether you will be reborn in the next life after death, the answer is that you will be reborn. If you are reborn, will the body be reborn or the mind? This body, composed of the four elements, is left here, placed before everyone, and no one wants it to be reborn. If the mind is permanent, it cannot be reborn. If the mind is annihilated, there will be no possibility of rebirth. That is, in the Salu Ljampa Sutra, the Blessed One said: "It is not permanent, it is not annihilated, it is not transferred. From a small cause, a great result arises; one should understand its lineage in this way." Thus he spoke. If you wonder how you know that it is not permanent, in the past, when the minister of King Trisong Detsen (742-798), named Ngamtak Ra Lhugong, died, the Bonpos summoned his spirit, and all his belongings appeared there as they had been in his lifetime, and the king

It is said that someone boasted to Guru Padmasambhava, saying that the Bonpos could also do such things. The Guru said, "Go and ask him what the secret name was when I empowered you two, the king and the minister." After asking, the person said he didn't know. The Guru then asked, "Then where were you at that time?" The person said, "At that time, you were practicing the fire mandala and the vajra fence, so I couldn't get in." The Guru asked, "Then who are you?" The person said, "I am the rock spirit of this valley." The Guru asked, "Then why are you doing this?" The person said, "The Bonpos gave me a reward and told me to do this, so I did it." The Guru asked, "Where was the great minister reborn?" The person said, "I don't know. A butcher can slaughter a sheep, but where the consciousness goes, I don't know. My situation is similar to that." The Guru said, "Then, show your true form." After saying that, the Guru struck a cymbal, and the person turned into a bald old man. After that, the king asked the Guru, "Where was the great minister reborn?" The Guru said, "In that place in Stodlung, he was reborn as a dung beetle." So, the Guru and his entourage, as well as the king and his entourage, went to that place. The Guru sat on a high place and said to the king, "Lift that stone up." After lifting it up, the king said, "There is nothing here but a hole." The Guru said, "Say to that hole: 'Minister, Minister, come out!'" After saying that, a huge, buzzing dung beetle appeared, awakening the memories of the former king and minister, and began to use honorifics and express sadness, etc. The king asked, "Now that he has died from here, where will he be reborn?" It is said that he will be reborn as a human. The king said, "Then I will kill him." The Guru said, "Killing him is useless. When the karma of being a dung beetle is exhausted, he can be reborn as a human after death." Then, the king developed a special reverence for the Three Jewels, saying that he would offer to the Guru and the Three Jewels, and offered all the treasure catalogs to the Guru. The reason why all the treasure catalogs are now in Samye Monastery is also here. Therefore, nothing is permanent, sometimes reborn as a human, sometimes reborn as a dung beetle.
