Just as so-and-so generated the precious mind, so too, I, named so-and-so, generate the mind of enlightenment. I will liberate those who have not been liberated. I will free those who have not been freed. I will give rest to those who have not found rest. Say this three times, and then say, "It is skillful means. It is excellent." To protect the mind of enlightenment, one must study these trainings: study accumulating vast merit, study seeing its benefits and remembering them, study increasing and cultivating it, study not abandoning sentient beings, and study abandoning the four black dharmas and practicing the four white dharmas. Among these, accumulating vast merit is the cause for generating aspiration, the essence of entering vows, and the samaya of the Great Vehicle Secret Mantra. From enlightenment onwards, the inexhaustible adornment wheel of body, speech, and mind causes all sentient beings, as vast as the sky, to ripen and be liberated, and this arises from the accumulation of merit. Therefore, abandon the opposing sides of the six perfections, such as the six kinds of miserliness, and practice the six perfections, such as generosity. This is the accumulation of merit, so one should study practicing it. Furthermore, the Great Seal here refers to the fact that even if the objects of the six perfections are very subtle, like a needle thread or a grain of barley, due to the influence of the mind of enlightenment, however vast the mind of enlightenment is, the object will also become that vast. Therefore, studying seeing its benefits and remembering them, in general, the mind of enlightenment has immeasurable benefits, but in short, it can be summarized as the three goodnesses of beginning, middle, and end. Among these, the initial goodness is that all the happiness, fame, and so on of this life arise from the mind of enlightenment. As it is said, "If the Bodhisattva is in the world, then gods and humans are also in the world." The middle goodness is that the qualities of the ground and the path, and all happiness, arise from the mind of enlightenment. Without the mind of enlightenment, whether a king appears or not, whether the world exists or not...

It is said, "Where do Indra, Brahma, and the Hearers come from?" Ultimately, attaining enlightenment through the completion of virtue also arises from the mind of enlightenment. As stated in the Bodhicaryāvatāra: "Like the supreme alchemy, having taken this impure body, it transforms into the precious and priceless body of the Victorious Ones. Therefore, hold firmly to what is called the mind of enlightenment." Furthermore, by generating the supreme mind of enlightenment now, and acting in three ways, one obtains the three kāyas as a result. By generating the aspiration for the supreme enlightenment now, one obtains the nirmāṇakāya as a result. By generating the engagement in the supreme enlightenment now, one obtains the sambhogakāya as a result. By generating the ultimate supreme enlightenment now, one will obtain the dharmakāya as a result. This is to see its benefits and to remember its benefits. The so-called familiarization is to not forget the precious mind of enlightenment in all activities, such as lifting and placing the foot, and to make it a habit. Then, there is increasing and purifying: "I take refuge in the supreme Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, until I attain enlightenment. By the merits of my giving and other virtues, may I quickly attain Buddhahood for the benefit of beings." One should strive to recite this three times during the day and three times during the night, to the best of one's ability. Thus, while increasing the precious mind of enlightenment, all sins and obscurations, like salt and cold, cannot coexist but are contradictory, and therefore purification and elimination will occur. This is what is meant by training in increasing and purifying. Then, there is training in not abandoning sentient beings: If, because someone has done something improper, one develops the thought, "I must never meet this bad person again," that is abandoning sentient beings. Dharma Lord Rinpoche said, "Cutting off affection, even if you become good, I have no expectations; even if you become bad, I have no expectations—that is the thought." Therefore, if such a thought arises for one-sixth of a day and night, one will incur the fault. The Venerable Phagmo Drupa said, "If one is a guide of others, etc., at the time of seeing such a situation,
