Therefore, all those who wish to (understand) things should understand them separately through this reasoning. Because when it is said that these are composed of eight particles of matter, it is not established because only one can be seen. If seeing the form means seeing all the substances, then not seeing the other seven should also mean not seeing the form, because the reason is the same. Or you can add 'because the vase is not seen'. Preventing the collection and only preventing the part, for example, even if only the single form is seen, it is not established because the other two (smell and touch) are not seen. The same applies to smell, taste, and touch. If these three parts are decomposed, they will eventually become dust; if the dust has parts, then it will be endless; if it has no parts, then it cannot be assembled. Or, if it has parts, then the smallest dust will disappear, so it cannot be directly perceived; if it has no parts, then it cannot become a tangible thing. Smell, taste, and touch can also be refuted in the same way, for example, if smelling the smell means smelling all the sandalwood, then there will be problems, and the single smell has no direct perception, etc. Because the direct perception of what can be seen is not established, the unestablished probandum (what is to be proven), that is, the self-nature of the form, etc., of the probandum (what is to be proven) of direct perception, is unreasonable, because two established things will become the proof (the prover). Using an unestablished thing to prove an unestablished thing is not allowed in the system of reason. All things first become tiny parts, and then these parts compose the whole, from the smallest dust to the coarse things, through the decomposition of the parts in all directions, the parts and the whole will become countless. Therefore, these two (part and whole) are interdependent and have no self-nature. In fact, because there is no (self-nature), so it is with letters, because they can be decomposed into front and back parts, so there is no thing. The *Compendium on Valid Cognition* says: 'The nature of letters, all boundaries, exist in an undiminishing measure.' If it is decomposed into moments, then it will become nothing, and because it depends on the front and back, it will have no self-nature. If there are no letters, then the collection of sounds that express the name, sentence, speech, chapter, or explanation, treatise, etc., composed of letters will not exist, because all these can be decomposed into front and back parts, so it will become nothing, and because it depends on the front and back, it will have no self-nature. Or, if there are no expressers such as letters, then because there is no meaning to be expressed, there is no knowledge with it as an object, both expression and knowledge do not exist, so all objects and those with objects do not exist in kind. If color and shape are different, then the eye will not perceive shape, just like sound. If these two are not other, but one, then in the darkness of the body, because the shape is grasped, the color will also be grasped.' This is the view of the Vaibhashikas. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If the Sautrāntikas consider the tangible shape and color to be different entities, there would be some problems. The Vaibhāṣikas believe that the shape presented by color is the same as color, and the tangible shape is the same as the tangible, but since it cannot be touched, it is a contradiction. Furthermore, the four elements that constitute matter, other than the form aggregate, are invisible. 1-452 This statement is also unreasonable, because for an object like a vase, the eye can see the color, and the body can feel the four elements of solidity, moisture, warmth, and motion. If the objects are different, the color and the four elements will appear in different sensory realms. Therefore, it can be seen that they do not have a thorough understanding of the meaning of the aggregates as explained in the Abhidharma by the Holy Father and Son (Asanga and Vasubandhu). Therefore, if color and the four elements are the same, then they should both be perceived by the eye. This view only applies to the Vaibhāṣika monk Sanghasri, and not to others, because all Buddhists believe that the two are different. The word 'earth' indicates that it can only be perceived by the body and not by the eye. 'Merely' means 'only'. This statement comes from the Abhidharma, because worldly people also call color and shape 'earth'. Some say that the production of 'what is to be seen' means that the vase becomes what is to be seen, so it is obvious. But this does not become its merit, because if it is what is to be seen, then it is meaningless, because this would lead to infinite needs. If it is not what is to be seen, it will not arise, because even for non-living things, it will arise and become what is to be seen. 1-453 Therefore, the production of what is to be seen is unreasonable, just as not seeing the vase, there is also no existence of the vase as not being what is to be seen, because nominally, it is impossible for there to be a vase that is not what is to be seen. Or, the production of what is to be seen and the existence of the vase as not being what is to be seen are both non-existent, because neither of them has been seen. If you believe that the subject and object are independent of each other, then what is the reason? If you believe that they are also independent without a reason, then the opposite may also be the case. We believe that the eye and ear are both composed of elements, just as they are similar in the form of the result, but the eye sees color and the ear hears sound, which is determined by karma. Therefore, the Buddha said that the maturation of karma is inconceivable, which refers to this kind of situation. That's how I explain it. If there is Acharya Chandrakirti here, then things are obvious? Because the eye and ear are similar in elemental composition, what the eye sees... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
