‘Unborn,’ ‘Unceasing,’ ‘Nirvana by Nature,’ and so forth, the one hundred and eight names of the Prajnaparamita (Perfection of Wisdom) are all synonyms for this (emptiness). This (emptiness) is not to be taught to the inferior, because even the names of this Dharma are superior to them. For those who are not vessels, it will cause fear, because they are weak-minded and have little wisdom; the profound Dharma will frighten them. Whoever sees the wisdom that does not generate fear, has strength, and understands the two truths of selflessness, then he is a person with good intelligence. Those timid heretics will say: ‘If the aggregates are momentary, and the selflessness spoken of by Shakyamuni, then the efforts to be reborn in good realms and attain liberation will become meaningless.’ The Hearer (Shravaka) schools will also say: ‘Like this, slandering cause and effect, uprooting virtuous qualities, like flowers in the sky, like hail destroying crops. Those who wish to benefit should avoid it from afar.’ Just as they said. In order to defeat and eliminate the wrong views of those timid ones, wasn't it for them that the Buddha taught? This Dharma of selflessness is proclaimed in order to completely defeat (those who hold to a self). Even so, selflessness will burn those who speak of self, just like burning something with fire. Although fire is used to burn wood, it will also burn other things incidentally. Although selflessness is proclaimed for the sake of liberation, it will also incidentally burn and destroy various wrong views. To clearly illustrate this through the figure of speech of comparison or double entendre. Comparing the Dharma of scripture to selflessness, whoever understands this Dharma of the twelve divisions of scripture, he does not like other heretical texts. Therefore, for Aryadeva (Noble God), the Dharma of scripture is like a terrifying gate for all views and afflictions, because the view of selflessness arises from the gate of scripture. Comparing the Dharma of realization to selflessness, whoever knows and realizes this Dharma of selflessness, he does not like other views of self and duality. Therefore, for the one who realizes selflessness, this Dharma is like the gate that destroys all wrong views, like the cause (of destruction), because this cause of destruction can destroy all wrong views. Words like ‘similar’ and ‘like’ express both similarity and sameness with things. The *Abhidharmakosha* says: ‘The Buddha's sacred Dharma has two aspects: the nature of scripture and realization. They are only the holders, the speakers, and the practitioners.’ The reason why the wise do not fear is because of scripture and reasoning. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If a wise person concludes through analysis that there is indeed no self in the ultimate sense, then such a person with such a view or thought will not rejoice at the existence of self, nor will they fear or be frightened by the non-existence of self. Because they have no attachment to the view of self and no anger towards the view of no-self. Just like a piece of wood, they have neither joy nor fear. Seeing many non-Buddhists who take the seeds of samsara and bad migrations as the source of desire, which wise person would not have compassion for those beings who desire the Dharma of no-self? It is appropriate to have compassion and respect for them. Or, which Bodhisattva would not have compassion for beings who desire non-Buddhist Dharma? One should reverse that religious system with compassion. From the Samadhiraja Sutra: 'In this world, who is more extreme than non-Buddhists? Abiding with those who are settled, distinguishing right from wrong, and placing compassion on them is the first distinction of patience.' To show the reasons for the number of people entering the inner and outer teachings, the Dharma of the Shakya school is apprehended by the mind, because they place their minds equally on no-self and thereby exhaust the two obscurations. The Dharma of the naked ascetics is apprehended by the eye, because they are naked, smeared with ashes, exposed to the wind and sun, and pluck their hair, etc., being physical actions. The Dharma of the Brahmins is apprehended by the ear, because they consider reciting the Vedas to be Dharma. In particular, in the 'Praise of the Excellent': 'Those who recite the Dharma do not give wisdom to the lower castes, but you show the sacred Dharma with compassion even to the outcasts.' And in the same text: 'The merit of recitation is eightfold, the other shore of the Vedas is infinite.' The word 'also' includes the austerities of the non-Buddhist practitioners of the five fires, bathing in the four rivers, jumping on the three points of a spear, and practicing the mantras of Ishvara and Vishnu, and so on. Because that is the case, the doctrine of the Buddha is subtle, and it is to be known by those who are wise, clear, and mindful by placing their minds equally. Therefore, because it is difficult to understand and because they have accumulated little merit in the past, few enter the Buddha's teachings. The second is to clearly show the Dharma of the two, how is it? The Dharma of the outer religionists is recitation and... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
