Furthermore, concerning speaking only a portion of the Dharma, it is said: 'Apart from here, there are no practitioners elsewhere.' And in the Mother Sutra, it is said: 'For those who wander about, seeking faults, I have not seen even a single white dharma (virtuous quality).' Just as it is evident that afflictions do not arise in emptiness, so too, regarding the hidden Four Noble Truths spoken by the Buddha, and the endless cause-and-effect relationship between these four, ordinary beings cannot understand through their own perception, and therefore doubts arise. This is based on the example of emptiness, and one should believe that what is said in the scriptures is precisely this, because the scriptures are used to reveal extremely hidden meanings. The scriptures are as they are, because they are the words of the Buddha, just like the sutras that explain emptiness. The Commentary on Valid Cognition says: 'For the suchness of what should be taken and what should be discarded, through correct understanding with means, because it does not deceive in the main meaning, it can be inferred for others.' This means that because one is not deceived in the Four Noble Truths, one can also infer for others. This is not possible for non-Buddhists. Whether it is the Samkhya or the Vaisheshika, etc., they find it difficult to see the gross aspects of sentient beings and the world of objects. Their teachings of the twenty-five principles and six categories of meaning, etc., contradict direct perception, which is complete ignorance, like not seeing the full moon. Therefore, those who in the future follow the wrong path will be deceived for a long time by their teachers and the doctrines they teach, and will wander in the boundless ocean of suffering. Those who abandon the wrong path and go to Nirvana themselves are extremely rare and will become Buddhas. The guide is for the sake of the Buddha, not to please the minds of those who are not noble, because they are accustomed to the wrong path from beginningless time, and therefore they are afraid of the path shown by the Buddha. Ordinary people who have never seen or realized emptiness do not feel fear; but those who have seen and understood emptiness well, their fear will disappear. Therefore, those who know a little but have not gained certainty are afraid, because the fear of emptiness is the same as the fear of other things. For those things that one has not paid attention to or has not understood well, there is no fear. Just like knowing it is a pattern, but not knowing what kind of pattern it is, one is afraid of it like a snake. The cause of fear is the opposing side. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Habituated to manifestation, children, beings are immersed in samsara because they have been accustomed to clinging to objects since beginningless time. These children are not accustomed to emptiness, therefore they fear the Dharma of emptiness that can stop samsara, becoming frightened and not accepting it, so they wander in samsara. Anyone, whose symbol is ignorance, obscured and suppressed by hatred, jealousy, miserliness, laziness, and fear, hinders the understanding of emptiness, and is even given the name 'virtuous and noble'. Because of this reason, they cause great harm to the mindstreams of themselves and others, the light of wisdom cannot dispel the darkness of samsara, thus preventing them from going to the city of omniscience. Therefore, the Sutra says 'discipline', and the Acharya (Sanskrit teacher) explains its meaning as 'by discipline'. The highest states are Bodhi (Enlightenment), Byangchub (Perfect Enlightenment), and the three bodies (Trikaya), merely a slight loss of discipline can lead to the loss of the opportunity to attain these fruits. In comparison, a single wrong understanding of view is more serious than countless violations of discipline. For those who fear selflessness (Bdag med, Tibetan for no-self), teaching the Dharma of self is best, one should not teach selflessness, because this will lead them to fall into lower realms. But extraordinary saints attain peaceful Nirvana (Myang 'das, Tibetan for Nirvana) through emptiness. The Hundred Verses of Wisdom says: 'To teach fools only leads to confusion, not peace. Like a snake drinking milk, it only increases its poison.' What is selflessness like? It is the gate of peace, without a second, that is, the gate of no-sign (Mtsan ma med pa, Tibetan for no-sign) and the gate of no-wish (Smon pa med pa, Tibetan for no-wish). If these two gates are missing, one cannot go to Nirvana. All evil views that cling to 'self' and 'dharma' are destroyed by these two gates, because all views are contained within these two. 'Self' refers to the nature of things that does not depend on others. 'Selflessness' is the absence of 'self', divided into two types: the selflessness of person (Gang zag, Tibetan for person) and the selflessness of phenomena (Chos, Tibetan for phenomena). The former, from the perspective of negation, refers to the absence of a permanent, single, and independent self; from the perspective of non-negation, it refers to an impermanent, multiple, and dependent self. The latter refers to phenomena such as aggregates (Phung po, Tibetan for aggregates), elements (Khams, Tibetan for elements), and sources (Skye mched, Tibetan for sources). From the perspective of negation, it refers to freedom from elaboration (spros bral, Tibetan for freedom from elaboration); from the perspective of non-negation, it refers to the eight similes of illusion (Sgyu ma'i dpe brgyad, Tibetan for eight similes of illusion), appearing but without inherent existence. Therefore, that which possesses these three dharmas is the suchness of selflessness (De kho na nyid, Tibetan for suchness), which is emptiness (Stong pa nyid, Tibetan for emptiness), the ultimate truth (Yang dag pa'i mtha', Tibetan for ultimate truth), reality (Don dam pa, Tibetan for reality), and the realm of Dharma (Chos kyi dbyings, Tibetan for realm of Dharma). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
