Because this is the tenet of 'Na' (Tibetan: ན་). If it is said that because things exist, there is the present time, then: How can there be abiding things in those that arise and perish in every instant, without the slightest stay? That is to say, because it is devoured by impermanence, there is no abiding. If the first is new and abides in 'Sona' (Tibetan: སོ་ན་, Sanskrit: kṣaṇa, Romanization: kṣaṇa, Literal meaning: instant), then the last will not become old, so it will not abide in 'Sona'. Your own sect believes that the five sense consciousnesses are constant, fearing that one consciousness, such as the eye consciousness, cannot know two things, earlier and later, at the same time. Similarly, two eye consciousnesses that arise earlier and later cannot know the same object, because the later consciousness has not grasped the object seen earlier, because it is momentary and has perished. The later consciousness is another similar thing. Therefore, those who are not proficient in things mistake seeing something similar to it for seeing that thing. The Abhidharma says: Each of the five objects corresponds to one of the five sense consciousnesses, plus one mind consciousness, there are two consciousnesses operating simultaneously. This is to say that the mind consciousness that runs after the five sense consciousnesses considers all the earlier and later things as one, and thinks that it has grasped the object of the five sense consciousnesses. This is only to conform to worldly sayings. If the later mind consciousness grasps what was previously grasped by the five sense consciousnesses, then the author of the Abhidharma does not admit the moment, then he is not a Buddhist.' The explanation confirms the moment. The teacher Dharmamitra said in the commentary on the small commentary that the teacher Chandrakirti does not admit gross impermanence, but only subtle impermanence, thinking that this was said by the Buddha to make people weary of conditioned things. The Ratnavali says: 'If it is a moment, because there are no parts, where will there be old?' Here the moment is denied, and the non-moment is also denied. This teacher believes that in this treatise, both the object and the consciousness are momentary and equal in number, and believes that the consciousness of viewing various pictures also arises in a rapid sequence. As the Abhidharma says: 'For white and so on, consciousness arises sequentially, because it arises quickly, fools think it is instantaneous.' He agrees with the view of the Hinayana school. Therefore, both the object and the consciousness are momentary in their respective times, and the mind consciousness cannot directly know the self-character, but it is directly determined by the root consciousness, and then realized by wisdom, and then names are applied. The explanation says so. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is explained. If the very existence of a thing is the present time, then does that time exist? If that thing exists by residing in time, then the dependent time will not change into time, because the dependent and the depended are different, just as a person sitting on a bed is not the bed, it is not reasonable to be the characteristic of other things. If it does not exist in time, then there is no end to that which does not exist, therefore that time is permanent, so the substance of the present also becomes permanent, because the reason is the same. The establishment of the three times as substance also admits impermanence, if impermanence is different from the thing, then the thing will not become impermanent, because it has different reasons, just like a stone cannot be broken. If the two are one, then where does the thing exist? Because impermanence itself is the thing, so it is consumed by it. Impermanence does not consume existence, because when it exists continuously, impermanence is weak, if the weak destroys the strong, then there is no destruction? Impermanence is inherently weak, and existence is not weak, because it is inherently strong, it is not reasonable to see those powers reversed from the outside, because the nature does not change. The appearances of existence from the outside and inside are always seen to be destroyed by impermanence, so it is always strong and not weak, if it exists in all things, then all things will not exist, or all things are not impermanent, therefore it becomes permanent, because there is a strong existence that is not harmed by impermanence. If the permanent characteristic of impermanence exists on the conditioned, which is the basis, then the conditioned will always become impermanent, because the characteristic always exists on the basis. The existence as mother and child, impermanence is produced later by that cause, if it was previously permanent and later becomes impermanent, then it is impossible for one thing to be both permanent and impermanent. The characteristics of the conditioned must exist on one thing, but impermanence and existence cannot exist on one basis, if it says 'if', then it is wrong, wrong is false, if impermanence exists in reality, then existence does not exist in reality, therefore the thing does not exist at the time of existence. If the past time exists, because there is memory of it? That thing that was seen before does not appear now, because it has disappeared and does not exist. Furthermore, the mind with and without conceptualization that directly focuses on it will not arise now, because it itself does not appear. Therefore, memory is fabricated by the mind. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
