If one follows others, then the root of suffering is the initial sin, and in between, the twenty kinds of afflictions are rooted in self-grasping. From the outside, to know and refute the inverted view that the aggregates, realms, and sources are coarse, subtle, and momentary consciousness, etc., is to be a skilled teacher of the Dharma. To refute all views, such as viewing form as emptiness, is like refuting all three dharmas of the aggregates, etc., by viewing them as empty. As stated in the Samadhiraja Sutra: 'By one, all dharmas are known; by one, all are seen.' The emptiness of all dharmas is the same, just as the space in multiple containers is no different, and the taste of seawater is all salty. For those who are attached to the laws of samsara and desire higher realms, the Buddha taught them to accumulate merit. For those who desire liberation from samsara, even merit should be abandoned, let alone sin? When Maitreya (བྱམས་པ།, मैत्रेय, maitreya, Loving-kindness) was prophesied in Varanasi (ཝ་ར་ཎ་སི།), the Bhikshuni (དགེ་སློང་མ།, भिक्षुणी, bhikṣuṇī, female monastic) Phama (ཕམ་པ།) then wished that the Chakravartin (འཁོར་ལོ་བསྒྱུར་བ།, चक्रवर्तिन्, cakravartin, Wheel-turning monarch) would be born as a female, because she was tired of suffering, so she ordained and said, 'You foolish one, you actually want suffering!' And I would not praise even the momentary accomplishment of the manifested world, because that is also the root of suffering.' So, is emptiness alone sufficient? If one naturally does good, or always does good, or does good at an inappropriate time, like medicine that does not cure the disease but causes other harm, if one does not think so, one will become abandoning the Dharma. What is taught first? It's like saying 'for example,' because foolish people do not understand other languages. First, the worldly principles are explained, and then they are gradually led into the realm of the two selflessnesses (the selflessness of persons and the selflessness of phenomena). The Buddha, in order to refute nihilism (the false view that everything is non-existent), therefore proclaimed existence; in order to refute the attachment to reality, therefore proclaimed non-existence; in order to refute the attachment to both existence and non-existence, therefore proclaimed neither existence nor non-existence; in order to refute all elaboration, therefore proclaimed neither existence nor non-existence nor neither non-existence. This is like giving four different medicines for four kinds of diseases. If one can correctly see these four teachings, that is, neither existence nor non-existence, one can attain the most supreme state of liberation. If one can slightly understand the law of karma and cause and effect, and can correctly adopt and abandon, one can obtain the result of a good rebirth. Therefore, one should contemplate the emptiness of the inner self. The commentary says that this should be combined with the completeness or incompleteness of the light of wisdom. If even if one understands emptiness, but because some conditions are not complete, like the karma that one must endure in this life, such as committing the five heinous crimes. Action is the result, which is the world. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For all that transcends suffering, they are rare. If one recognizes this, even in this life, it is not non-existent, but existent. It is difficult to unite with this and find liberation. Just as hearing of the impurities of the body and incurable diseases, one can abandon desire, so too, by meditating on emptiness, one can abandon all afflictions, because it is the antidote to all antidotes. If one says that because samsara has no beginning or end, even if one practices the path, it will not be exhausted, then, although samsara in general will not be exhausted, individual parts will be exhausted. Just as a seed has no beginning, but when burned by fire, an end is seen, so too, the cause of rebirth—afflictions—when burned by the fire of wisdom, will not be reborn, because the cause is incomplete. The Commentary on Valid Cognition says: 'Karma that is overcome by the craving for existence cannot cause further rebirth, because the co-actor is exhausted.' As action and the teacher increase, the chariot of rebirth is ridden by ignorant children, and has the momentum of afflictive karma. When one momentum of affliction is exhausted, the momentum of karma alone does not turn.' For those who desire the One Vehicle, a detailed explanation of how Arhats take rebirth can be found in the Ornament of the Middle Way and the Ornament of Realization. As for Bodhisattvas, the Ornament of the Sutras says: 'Those with intelligence are born through the power of karma, vows, samadhi, and mastery.' This is the explanation of the eighth chapter on training disciples. Ninth Chapter: Refutation of the Assertion of Permanent Entities The first eight chapters explain the Dharma for attaining heaven and liberation, and the latter eight chapters, in order to refute the views of other schools, are called the 'Hundred Arguments,' as explained by the teacher Palden Chokyong. The teacher Chandrakirti explains that the first eight chapters make one fit to be a vessel for the nectar of emptiness, and the latter eight chapters reveal the nectar of suchness. First, refuting permanence and proving whether all the teachers, internal and external, are omniscient or not. 'All' refers to all phenomena included in samsara and nirvana, which arise for the sake of a result, because no object that does not produce a result is seen. The result also arises after changing, because it changes from not producing to producing, and after producing, it ceases itself. Therefore, things are not permanent. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
