Because it is not the place of origin, it brings various harms, therefore, one should pay some attention to its unpleasantness and its harmfulness. When the noble Shantideva (Sanskrit: Śāntideva) was subduing the people in the border area of Klung Shona, the Bhagavan (Sanskrit: Bhagavan) forbade him, saying, 'These people are very difficult to tame.' Shantideva replied, 'Bhagavan, if they scold me, I will think, 'Fortunately, they did not hit me, this is really good.' If they take my life, I will think, 'This will free me from this decaying body, this is a good thing for me.' The Bhagavan then allowed him. Returning harm for harm is a meaningless act, and being respectful and attached to those without virtue is also the same. Anger hinders the accumulation of merit. As it is said: 'There is no asceticism more important than patience, so do not give anger any chance.' The Buddha himself said: 'Abandoning anger, one can attain the state of non-retrogression.' Anger destroys the inferior, so abandon it. For the object of anger, cultivate the meditation of loving-kindness. Pay special attention to death, which will ultimately destroy everything.' 'Place' and other words include both birth and death. 'Truth' refers to wisdom that is like illusion, which is the mind-continuum. The above is the sixth chapter explaining the means of abandoning afflictions. Now begins the explanation of the seventh chapter, on the means of abandoning attachment to enjoyment. In order to show the abandonment of actions arising from attachment, suffering is mentioned. Just as the sage with clairvoyance, Rohita, tried to run from one mountain to another, seeking the end of the world, but eventually died without finding it. Even if one remains in youth, one is not fearless, because old age follows closely behind, and death comes again. Even if one thinks one is abiding, the competition between youth, old age, and death is as swift as a horse race. If one cannot act as one wishes, it is like being taken away by an executioner, being dominated by karma and afflictions. It is like an object carried away by a flood. The 'future' should also be understood in this way, from beginningless samsara, just like ordinary people create karma, one must also strive to ensure that one does not continue to create karma.

If one possesses wealth, hearing, and the scriptures and teacher (Buddha) who expound the Four Noble Truths, it is called 'having an end.' If one does not possess these, it is called 'without an end.' The reason for not answering the question of 'having an end' and 'without an end' lies in this. Therefore, one should strive to possess all three, thereby cutting off samsara (cyclic existence). Non-virtuous individuals refer to those who are adherents of other (non-Buddhist) systems and evil friends, etc.; the direction they are in is unwholesome. 'Reproach' refers to being harmed by the ripening of karma, like being burned or killed. Virtuous individuals refer to the noble ones (aryas). Because one engages in various actions that harm oneself, one is considered insane. 'Showing' refers to 'consciousness.' Traveling far away, as well as standing, sitting, lying down, speaking, and other sufferings, if one can avert these causes, the suffering will diminish. Because one can see the cessation of suffering, one should liberate everything from the causes of samsaric suffering. What is said here also applies to the methods of annihilation used by non-Buddhists, because once afflictions are exhausted, karma cannot cause one to transmigrate, but one cannot exhaust karma in order to exhaust karma. Therefore, it refers to abandoning sinful actions. The result that arises from the elements or from the mind is a single action. Seeing that even a single action expands with endless causes and results, what fear will not arise for any being? 'The result created by a child' refers to things that ultimately change and perish, which can be understood as the destruction of suffering. 'Ko' is a sound of unbearableness. Regarding past thoughts, one is currently experiencing them, without stopping, and for the sake of happiness, I cling to 'this.' 'The wise' is a praise of various kinds of wisdom. As it is said in the scriptures: 'Those who are not interested in your Dharma, blinded by ignorance, even if they ascend to the peak of existence, will still create suffering and samsara.' Not only the noble ones, but even children can understand that body and mind will perish at the same moment. 'Showing' refers to 'if even a child.' Arrogant and conceited people, because they act wickedly without compassion, are difficult to subdue. Therefore, those who go from light to light are rare. Those who are liberated from attachment to sensual pleasures and possess generosity, moral discipline, and patience, according to the scriptures, will obtain the result of a good rebirth aimed at the five sensual pleasures. So, which wise person would desire such a cause of inverted samsaric dharma? Even the result of a good rebirth needs to be constantly guarded against harm, so it should not be regarded as one's own, but one should abandon both the cause and result of samsara. If one calls it 'dharma' according to worldly customs, then because the world is changing, its dharma will also change accordingly. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
