Therefore. Therefore, these two are fully established by manifesting with the body. As stated in the sutra, the others are not. Among the eight victories, there are three. From which liberation does it arise? The sutra says, by perceiving internal forms, one contemplates external small forms, beautiful colors and unpleasant colors, and ugly and beautiful things. By overcoming these forms, one contemplates, and by knowing the overcoming, one contemplates. By contemplating in this way, this is the first of the spheres of overcoming. Training in such great forms is the second, and these arise from the first liberation. By perceiving that there are no internal forms, these two victories of contemplating external small and large forms in this way arise from the second liberation. Thus, it is overcoming. By perceiving that there are no internal forms, one contemplates external blue colors, appearing as blue, the color is blue, like blue, and blue light arises. For example, like a flax flower, or the perfect silk produced in Varanasi, blue, the color is blue, appearing as like blue, and blue light arises. By perceiving that there are no internal forms, one contemplates external blue colors, etc., and overcomes and sees those forms, and by contemplating in this way, this is the fifth of the spheres of overcoming. Similarly, yellow is exemplified by the Dongga flower, and the combination with Varanasi's yellow silk is the sixth. Red is exemplified by the Bandhujivaka flower and the combination with red silk is the seventh. White is exemplified by the star Pavasa and the combination with white silk is the eighth. It should be understood that these four victories arise from one impure liberation. The difference between these two is that through liberation, one believes as one wishes in how one wants to transform the objects such as small ones. Through overcoming, one controls as one wishes, and overcomes by making the objects of self-nature not appear. Explaining the meaning of the sutra: Among them, the forms belonging to sentient beings are small, and the forms belonging to non-sentient beings such as mountains, houses, and dwellings are large. Beautiful colors and unpleasant colors are

Pleasant and unpleasant. The forms of humans and gods are, in order, the inferior and the excellent. To know these forms by overcoming them means through domination. To know means through the path of tranquility. To see means through the path of insight. To understand in this way means, whether overcoming or not, it is because of having an understanding without manifest pride towards it. Blue is a word of general statement. The color blue is because of the naturally occurring blue. To show as blue is because of the blue that arises from combination. The arising of blue light is because the lights that arise from both are luminous. Just as with blue, one should also widely understand yellow, red, and white. The two examples of flower and cloth are to speak of the colors that are naturally occurring and arise from combination, respectively. For example, 'blue' is a word that shows similarity for both flower and cloth. 'Color blue' refers to the flower itself, because it is naturally occurring blue. 'Showing as blue' refers to the cloth, because it is blue that arises from combination. 'The arising of blue light' refers to both, because both have luminosity. Similarly, yellow, red, and white should also be compared. The meaning of looking at external forms by understanding internal forms, etc., should be understood as one understands liberation. Exhaustion has two aspects, the first is: by overcoming, the objects of inherent nature do not appear, and by overcoming through domination, exhausting earth and so on through the exhaustion realms, that is, expanding without remainder, pervading boundlessly, and abiding in the samadhi and wisdom that are truly attained. Companion means similar to them, and so on. There are ten of these: exhaustion of earth, water, fire, wind, blue, yellow, red, white, space, and the sphere of consciousness.

Their function is to determine and summarize. The yogi who cultivates the ten kasina spheres accomplishes five tasks. What are the five? From the kasina earth and so on, up to the ultimate kasina white, they accomplish the extraordinary magical powers of transformation and transmuting objects. The kasina sphere of infinite space accomplishes the extraordinary magical powers of coming and going. The kasina sphere of infinite consciousness accomplishes the qualities of freedom from afflictions, knowledge by aspiration, and individual correct knowledge, and so on. Thus it is said. In the Yogācārabhūmi, it is also said, why are these two, form and tangible objects, separately established as spheres of generation? These two are present in the continua of oneself and others, and in all realms of sentient beings, whereas the eye and so on are only present in one's own continuum. Furthermore, odors and tastes are not universally present. Among those, the forms are the kasina samādhis of the form realm and below. The formless ones are those that pervade everything with space, and therefore they are established there as kasina spheres of generation. Consciousness is also because it has the sphere of objects as its field of activity. Initially, the yogi only believes. After that, he subdues. From then on, having gained mastery over subduing, he then believes in that very kasina sphere of generation as he pleases. Thus, the order of those is like that. The eight fully purified form kasina spheres of generation accomplish extraordinary faith and the magical powers of completely transforming objects. However it is believed and to whatever extent it is transformed, it becomes just like that, and even gold and so on can do what needs to be done. The fully purified kasina sphere of infinite consciousness accomplishes freedom from afflictions, individual correct knowledge, knowledge by aspiration, and so on. The fully purified kasina sphere of space transforms space as desired. For example, potters, blacksmiths, goldsmiths, and so on, with clay and so on.
