Attained wisdom that transcends the mundane. Furthermore, the former is the basis for purifying the latter. For example, one who possesses discipline, because discipline does not harm the benefit of generosity, generosity becomes pure. One who possesses patience, because the basis of learning is not severed by those who inflict harm, discipline becomes pure. Having initiated diligence, vowing to the cycle of existence for the sake of the strength of sentient beings, because easily enduring the suffering of sentient beings' wrongdoings, patience becomes pure. Meditation, accompanied by bliss and joy, unites with all virtuous dharmas, therefore diligence becomes pure. One who possesses wisdom, because contemplating various aspects of phenomena and pacifying them within, concentration increases, therefore meditation becomes pure. Furthermore, just as it is established in a coarse order, generosity is coarse in relation to all, therefore it is established first. Wisdom is the subtlest of all, therefore it is established last. Showing the definitive word: Why is it called the Perfection of Generosity? Because great generosity, faultless generosity, and stainless generosity are called the Perfection of Generosity. Great generosity is because of giving away all internal and external things and giving for a long time. Faultless is because of abandoning seeking with harm, and so on. Stainless is because of abandoning together with the predispositions of opposing factors. Similarly, it can be extended up to the Perfection of Wisdom. The fifth fault of discipline and so on is because of completely abandoning self-grasping and so on. This is temporarily the common definitive word, and the individual definitive words are: because it eliminates the poverty of the giver and the suffering of the recipients, it is generosity. Because it obtains pacifying the senses, uniting with good migrations, and is a cool place, it is discipline, the order is, because it closes the doors of the senses, becomes the cause of going to good migrations, and without regret, and so on, it is successively the place up to nirvana. For the sake of patience, which is to eliminate heat and heal wounds, to pacify and speak of peace. The mind of wounding is the desire to harm those who harm in return. Speaking of peace is proclaiming fearlessness to them. Diligence is acting for the sake of elimination and acting for the sake of increase. In order, the two right abandonments cause separation from non-virtuous dharmas, and the two accomplish virtuous dharmas correctly. For the sake of holding, guarding, taming, and attaining, it is meditative concentration. In order, holding the mind on the object, guarding the mind from distraction, completely subduing afflictions, and attaining mastery. Knowing what others say, knowing individually, knowing aspects, attaining peace, and perfecting qualities, is wisdom. In order, attending properly from the sounds of others, and having equality, obtaining from the aftermath of the transcendent, and being an antidote to afflictions on the path of meditation, and for the sake of realizing special qualities, it should be known as wisdom. The meditation shown is fivefold, namely: Thus, meditate by relying on the aggregates. Attention and thought, means and mastery, likewise. All of these are expressed. As it is said: Cause and maturation and aspiration, each examined, remember the aggregates. Thus, there are four meditations based on the aggregates. Abiding in the cause is to diligently practice the perfections with the power of lineage. Abiding in the fully ripened is by the power of a perfect body. Abiding in aspiration is by the power of aspiration. Abiding in the power of individual examination is to diligently practice the perfections with the power of wisdom. There are four meditations based on attention. Meditating with faith and attention is meditating on the sutras that possess all the perfections. Meditating with tasting attention is tasting those who have attained the perfections by seeing their qualities. Meditating with rejoicing attention is
