Because it possesses and the movement of consciousness is manifestly clear. When the first dhyana arises without outflows, it does not possess investigation and analysis as limbs, because the path beyond the world is of the nature of non-discrimination. The peak of existence is worldly because the movement of consciousness is not completely clear, and it is not a place where the path beyond the world is supremely clear. Therefore, it is called signless because it does not take the object as a sign due to weak consciousness. If you ask, how do you know that the peak of existence itself does not have the noble path? The answer is because it is said in the scriptures that as much as one enters into samadhi with clear consciousness, that much one understands everything and realizes the path beyond the world. Among the nine gradually abiding samadhis, it is also shown that the peak of existence is worldly and the other seven are beyond the world. If you ask, how about cessation? The answer is that it is beyond the world because it is obtained after the world. That cessation is first manifested among humans, because coarse consciousness and feelings arise there, and it is because it seeks cessation that stops these. That which was previously produced is manifested in the realm of form among humans or in future lives. It is not in the formless realm, the reason for which is as stated in "peaceful" etc. If you ask, how can one be free from attachment to form and attain the mind of the peak of existence, yet be born in the realm of form and manifest cessation? The answer is that merely being free from attachment to form does not necessarily mean that one can enter the formless realms. Therefore, it becomes four possibilities, as follows: There are those who are free from attachment to form but cannot enter the formless realms, because they rely on weakness to be free from attachment to form, such as non-returners and arhats. There are those who have not abandoned attachment to form but enter the formless realms, who are noble ones who have attained the fourth dhyana and do not seek to be born in the formless realms, but abandon the path and abide in a special path, and enter into the formless peaceful liberation. Both are true, meaning that they both seek to be free from attachment and abandon it.

Abiding in the path is to be in equipoise with the aspect of liberation, which is the peace of the formless realm. Neither of the two is anything other than those aspects. As explained in the commentary. The Abhidharmakosha commentary states: One who previously attained cessation, but later completely declined and was born in the realm of form, manifests cessation there due to the power of previous habituation. The small path and so on are established as three types in order to show that what is to be abandoned by cultivation is gradually abandoned. Among them, the smallest of the small path and so on are the three paths by which, in order, one abandons the three aspects of afflictions, the great of the great, and so on, from the first ground. Similarly, apply to the others as well. Why does the smallest of the small path abandon the greatest of the great afflictions? Because afflictions are extremely devoid of shame and embarrassment, they arise universally in the mind stream without hesitation. Therefore, what is easy to understand and easy to cut off is like a large stain, which can be removed with a small antidote. What arises in the mind stream and is difficult to cut off, and is subtle, is like a small stain, which can be removed with the power of a great antidote. Therefore, it should be understood that the antidote is established by reversing from the unfavorable side. The path of application is the path by which one is separated from each part of the negative aspects of the afflictions, such as the great of the great, and therefore, the aspect of afflictions will be abandoned after that. The path of no interruption is the path by which all afflictions will be abandoned without interruption below it. The path of liberation is the path by which one manifests the liberation of transformation after abandoning afflictions. The special path has three establishments: from the gate of the later path, from the gate of activity, and from the gate of qualities. The first is the path of application and so on, which abandons the great of the great aspects of afflictions, as well as other aspects such as the medium of the great, and is also a special path that abandons the first, because they also make the previous abandonment more stable. The second is to seek the application of abandoning other afflictions, and then the meaning of the Dharma in the Sutras and so on, a Bodhisattva or a former...
