As it is said. Eighth, divided into two, the aspect of discipline is explained as sixfold, that is, by guarding the discipline that has been properly taken without diminishing it. Therefore, one is endowed with discipline. The discipline that has been properly taken is not for the sake of existence and other purposes, but for the sake of definitely emerging from samsara. Whoever observes the vows is the discipline of definitely emerging, and therefore it is called being restrained by the vows of individual liberation. The ritual is perfect because the conduct and so on are not blamed by the noble ones. The sphere of activity is perfect because it abandons the five non-spheres of activity, that is, the five non-spheres of activity of a monk are: the place of killing, the place of prostitution, the house of selling alcohol, the king's palace, and the house of the Chandalas. For the precepts that have been established, one should also learn with great respect as if they were inherently blameworthy, which is called seeing even the smallest offense as terrifying. After properly and completely taking the two hundred and fifty-three bases of learning, studying them according to the Dharma is called studying what has been properly taken. From here onwards, it is in terms of the activity of discipline. The meaning of the fourteen kinds, such as being guarded by body and speech, which are mentioned in other sutras, will be explained. Among them, being guarded by body and speech means that, as instructed, one first observes with wisdom and then diligently practices walking, returning, and so on. Therefore, the actions of body and speech are completely grasped by mindfulness. Perfect, because one does not engage in the actions of transgression, so the discipline will not decline. Completely pure, because the discipline that has been properly taken is without fault, so there will be no regret, and from this the mind will abide in peace and so on, gradually abiding until samadhi. Moreover, the power of samadhi can extend the boundary of breaking the precepts. Virtuous, because the defilement of afflictions such as desire is not mixed at all. Without fault, because one has completely abandoned seeking for existence and enjoyment, and abides in pure conduct.
