However, like this, if a Bodhisattva vows to abstain from killing, they cannot abandon other paths of action such as not taking what is given, according to such principles. Therefore, the nature of abandoning seven or ten things is only individually different. The abandonment of meditative and undefiled vows is not individually different. Like this, the abandonment that destroys the seed of one kind of immoral conduct also destroys the seeds of other immoral conduct. Worldly or transcendental paths do not abandon each affliction such as desire one by one. If the abandonment of vows arising from symbols that are truly taken are only individually different, then when one commits a root downfall, only the abandonment that is the antidote to it will be relinquished, and it is not reasonable to relinquish others, because they are unrelated. If abandoning something unrelated causes others to deteriorate, then if Devadatta commits a root downfall, it would be too extreme to abandon the vows of offering. Therefore, the Kashmiris say: When it occurs, it is regarded as two things, like debt and wealth. Only this view is reasonable. If someone thinks this way. That is not so, like this, when one particularly commits a root downfall such as killing, a great deal of shamelessness and immodesty arises in that person's mindstream, otherwise it is not reasonable to particularly engage in paths of action that contradict what has been truly taken. Therefore, the opportunity for a great deal of shame and modesty to arise in the mindstream is eliminated, because it is damaged by a powerful opposing factor. For example, just as in a mindstream where wrong view has arisen, there is no opportunity for right view to arise. Those in whose mindstream a great deal of shame and modesty will not arise are not truly protected even if they have not actually committed the remaining root downfalls, if they have a basis for near-abiding, then in what way can they generate a powerful antidote in their mindstream that will prevent them from engaging in these paths of action?

Because there is no opportunity for recovery. Therefore, if one commits a root downfall, then all the vows that have been properly taken will be lost, because from then on, one no longer has the qualification to properly hold all the immoral precepts in the continuum. In this way, the example in the sutras, such as "If the head of a palm tree is cut off, it cannot turn blue again," will also be well established. If, according to the view that committing one root downfall does not diminish other precepts, then the cited metaphor is meaningless, so citing a metaphor is unreasonable. Furthermore, it is not the case that taking one means taking all, because the precepts that arise through expression depend on proper taking, and not merely on not practicing all paths of action, because unpleasant sounds, etc., are uncertain. The work of precepts has been described. Second, the nature of non-precepts is: having a mind of wrong aspirations, disbelief, laziness, forgetfulness, distraction, and having perverse wisdom. Among them, with regard to the fact that the result of sinful actions will become unpleasant in the future, not believing in this and becoming unpleasant is what is meant here by "disbelief." Manifestly rejoicing in and engaging in sinful actions as desired, and not being willing to tame them, is what is meant here by "laziness." Likewise, not remembering in the mind the blameworthy and faulty dharmas is what is meant here by "forgetfulness." The mindstream being distracted, having afflictions, and engaging in an unstable manner is what is meant here by "distraction." The perverted mindstream that sees faults as virtues is what is meant here by "perverse wisdom." So, what kind of people have non-precepts? Butchers, etc., are mentioned. Among them, a butcher is one who slaughters livestock and makes a living by selling them. Killing crows, etc., is also the same, combining them in whatever way is appropriate. Catching hares refers to those who catch hares. A thief is one who takes what is not given. An executioner is one who kills people sentenced to death by the king. An elephant catcher is one who catches elephants from the forest and tames them. One who lives by snakes is
