In order to attain the bliss of samadhi, it is for the sake of manifestly engaging in unwavering actions. The afflictions of the ten non-virtuous actions, such as killing and desiring meat, etc., are driven by attachment. Those who desire to eat meat are driven by hatred. Those who desire to make offerings, etc., are driven by ignorance. Everything culminates in hatred, for if there were no compassion, one would not refrain from killing sentient beings. As for harsh speech, speaking for the sake of praise and pleasure is driven by attachment. If one speaks relying on the nine objects of torment, it is driven by hatred. If one speaks for the sake of the guru or offerings, it is driven by ignorance. Harmful intent is also the same. As for taking what is not given, if one grasps at the attractive qualities of another's possessions and begins to act, it is driven by attachment. If it is not like that, but one begins to act in order to harm others, it is driven by hatred. If one begins to act for the sake of the guru and offerings, etc., it is driven by ignorance. Everything culminates in attachment, for if there were no attachment to another's property, one would not take it. Adultery is also the same; if one grasps at the attractive qualities of another's woman and begins to act, it is driven by attachment. If one begins to act in order to fully accept a friend or to repay a favor, it is driven by ignorance. If one begins to act relying on the nine objects of torment, it is driven by hatred. As for covetousness, if one grasps at the attractive qualities of another's property and belongings, thinking, 'May whatever belongs to others become mine,' it should be said to arise from attachment. If it is not like that, but relying on the nine objects of torment, one generates the thought, 'May whatever belongs to others become mine,' then it arises from hatred. If, seeking after Vishnu, Shiva, Indra, etc., with a mind that dwells repeatedly, one generates the thought, 'Doing so will result in great merit,' then it arises from ignorance. Both of these belong to the category of attachment, and thus are completed by attachment. If one speaks falsehood for the sake of a small amount of wealth, pleasant sounds, praise, pleasure, etc.

When speaking, if lying is due to attachment. If lying is based on a universal feeling of annoyance, then it is a combination of hatred. If it is thought to be Dharma for the sake of the lama and offerings, then it is a combination of ignorance. When lying, any of the three manifest afflictions will bring it to completion. For divisive speech, it should be understood in the same way. For frivolous speech, if it is spoken for the sake of praise, happiness, and gain, etc., then it arises from attachment. If it is spoken based on a universal feeling of annoyance, then it arises from hatred. If one thinks that it is spoken for the sake of the Dharma, then it should be known that it arises from ignorance. Wrong view is, if one thinks that kings, etc., will give respect, etc., then one thinks there is no giving, no offering, etc., which is a combination of attachment. If my enemy gives in this way, there are offerings, etc., thinking that holding the same view as the enemy is not my part, thinking like this that there is no giving, etc., then it is a combination of hatred. If, with a non-rational thought that arises, one thinks about the Dharma in an unreasonable way, and incorrectly measures others, holding such a wrong view, then it can be said to arise from ignorance. Everything is brought to completion by ignorance, because if one is not ignorant, no one will hold a wrong view. The fourth is that these are explained in various different ways, there are ten, namely explaining by basis and ability, similar and dissimilar results, permission and prohibition, and the three that are considered to be discernible and indiscernible, from the aspect of the nature of the result, from the aspect of the time of experiencing the result, from the aspect of nature and fruition, the karma of giving, the karma of moral conduct, the sutra of the way of life of beings arising from karma, and the explanation of the sutra of the inconceivable karma. The first to be explained is that there are also those called common karma, etc. The explanation of this is: common refers to the karma that forms the vessel world, because its result is enjoyed in common by all sentient beings. Uncommon refers to the karma that separately forms the sentient world, its ripened result is experienced individually.
