The antidote karma, that is, it is completely accomplished at that time or after that time by the action related to it. Thus, it should be understood that the characteristics of the paths of action of the ten non-virtuous deeds are extensively distinguished by these five aspects. Here, the basis of killing is a sentient being with life. If the one who is being killed also has the perception of being a sentient being, and the sentient being that one intends to kill is also recognized as that sentient being, then this is called not having a distorted perception of it. Relying on that perception, the thought "I will kill this," that intention is the intention to kill. Being overwhelmed by the three, such as desire, and thus manifestly forming the mind, that is affliction. With that intention and the afflicted mind, one engages in killing oneself or through others, and strikes with a weapon. If one dies immediately after being struck, then at that very moment, the path of action is completely fulfilled and ultimate. If one does not die at that very moment, but dies at another time through that action, then it should be observed when one dies, and at that time it is ultimate. The basis of taking what is not given (stealing) is something held by another. The recognition is recognizing that it is another's. The intention is the desire to steal. The affliction is any of the three. The ultimate is moving it to another place. The basis of sexual misconduct is women with whom one should not engage in, and even if one should engage in, places that are not proper, times that are not proper, immoderate, unreasonable, and all men and hermaphrodites. The recognition is recognizing that it is them. The intention is the desire to engage in. The affliction is as before. The ultimate is the union of the two. The basis of lying is the four: what is seen, what is heard, what is distinguished, what is cognized, and the opposite of these. The recognition is recognizing what is seen, etc., and the opposite situation. The intention is the desire to speak by changing the recognition. The affliction is the same. The ultimate is that the other person understands when asked by others or companions. Separating

The basis of anger is sentient beings, both similar and dissimilar. Recognition is recognizing them as similar or dissimilar. Thought is wanting to differentiate and be dissimilar. Affliction is the same. The end is speaking in a distinguishable manner, understanding the meaning is sufficient. The basis of harsh speech is sentient beings who are the cause of all torment. Recognition is recognizing them as such. Thought is wanting to speak harshly. Affliction is the same. The end is speaking harshly to them. The basis of frivolous speech is meaning that is meaningless. Recognition is recognizing it as such. Thought is wanting to speak. Affliction is the same. The end is speaking. The basis of covetousness is the wealth and possessions of others. Recognition is recognizing it as such. Thought is wanting it to be so. Affliction is the same. The end is determining that it should become one's own. The basis and recognition of harmful intent are the same as harsh speech. Thought is wanting to strike. Affliction is the same. The end is the determination of striking and so on. The basis of wrong view is the meaning of the existence of cause and effect and the Four Noble Truths, and so on. Recognition is recognizing it as true. Thought is wanting it to be so. Affliction is the same. The end is determining that it has been denied. Among these, there are three types of killing: that which arises from increasing with transgression, that which arises from not increasing with transgression, and that which is without transgression. There are also three causes for generating transgression: generating affliction, generating suffering, and completely fulfilling desire. Among these, for the first type of killing, one should observe that it has all three causes. For the second type, there are two, namely, there is no complete fulfillment of desire. For the third type, there is only one, namely, only generating suffering. Among these, the nature, characteristics, and completeness of covetousness, harmful intent, and wrong view should be understood as being established in five ways, namely, the mind that is particularly attached to one's own enjoyment, the mind of attachment that arises from wanting enjoyment and so on, and completely discriminating the enjoyment of others as being good and so on.
