From impermanence belonging to the category of decay, one realizes the suffering of suffering. From impermanence itself, which realizes the category of destruction, one will realize the suffering of change. As previously stated. Or, if someone holds that conditioned things are stable and unchanging, then he will become attached to objects with defilements in a manner that is agreeable and pleasing. If someone realizes that conditioned things are impermanent and of a moving nature, then he will hold that objects with defilements are not worthy of attachment and are of a nature that is disagreeable. Therefore, from the aspect of impermanence, the aspect of suffering is obtained. Why is the aspect of no-self obtained from the aspect of suffering? Because whoever clings to self is attached to it in a way that desires self. Whoever does not perceive anything as desirable will not become attached to it. When someone realizes that objects with defilements are themselves to be renounced as suffering, then he does not see even a little of the nature of a self to be attached to in a desirable manner. Therefore, from the aspect of suffering, the aspect of no-self is obtained. Thus, it is also stated in the Pramāṇavārttika: "Liberation occurs through the view of emptiness; the remaining meditation is for that purpose. Therefore, from impermanence comes suffering; from suffering, no-self is taught." Thus it is said. Therefore, no-self is the supreme knowledge. Starting from the supreme, there are three kinds of supreme: supreme knowledge, supreme path, and supreme liberation. Among these, supreme knowledge is the knowledge of no-self, because beyond that, no other knowledge can be sought. The supreme path is the quick and easy clear realization, because it is the best of all paths. Supreme liberation is the liberation of the non-learning, non-wavering Dharma, because it is superior to all liberations. These three supremes are mastered in sequence by the paths of seeing, meditation, and no-more-learning. What is abandoned from what is the definitive

When a yogi eliminates afflictions, does he eliminate the fully afflicted, or does he eliminate the latent tendencies? From what elimination is it called elimination? Answer: It is eliminated from the latent tendencies. Because the fully afflicted are already eliminated from the beginning. Eliminating the latent tendencies is called elimination. Why? If the fully afflicted are eliminated but the latent tendencies are not eliminated, then the fully afflicted will arise again and again. If the latent tendencies are eliminated, then neither the latent tendencies nor the fully afflicted will arise again. As it is said, it should be understood here as well. Thus, from which is it eliminated, the manifest or the latent? Answer: It is not eliminated from the manifest. Because the past afflictions have already ceased, they have already been eliminated, so there is nothing to eliminate. The future afflictions have not yet arisen and have no form, so there is nothing to eliminate there either. The afflictions that arise in the present do not remain for more than a moment, so the action of the antidote cannot be applied. Moreover, the mind with latent tendencies and the mind without latent tendencies cannot exist together, so they cannot exist simultaneously with the path. Therefore, the afflictions that arise in the present cannot be eliminated either. However, from other sounds and appropriate attention, the mind that is the antidote to afflictions, that is, the mind that corresponds to the correct view, arises, and the mind with latent tendencies ceases. Therefore, it is from the place of afflictions, that is, from evil deeds, that one can eliminate. Thus, what is the aspect of the evil deeds to be eliminated by the path of seeing and the path of cultivation, with what antidote, that is, the worldly or the transcendental antidote, does the aspect of the antidote arise, and the aspect of the evil deeds that is not in accordance with it ceases? They are simultaneous, just as the arising of light and the cessation of darkness are simultaneous. What is the meaning of elimination? The mind in which the antidote has arisen, in the future, the aspect of the afflictions, abides in the nature of never arising again. Because it is separated from the cause of arising, that is, the aspect of evil deeds, this is the meaning of the antidote eliminating what is to be eliminated. Among them, the worldly antidote can only prevent the manifest afflictions from arising temporarily, but it cannot destroy the latent tendencies.
