What is it to be ignorant and unknowing of the true nature? That is, what arises in the realm of consciousness is concordant with other afflictions but not mixed, while what arises in the realm of the afflicted mind is not concordant and unmixed, but rather the basis is unmixed or the substance is unmixed. View is not anger or doubt, because the object and aspect are different. Doubt is also not desire and the other three, because they are different. Those such as anger that belong to the category of hatred are not mutually concordant with the near afflictions that belong to the category of desire, such as miserliness, because the object and aspect are different, just like desire and anger. Those that are not different should be understood to be mutually concordant, like afflictions. Shamelessness and recklessness are concordant with all non-virtuous minds, for if there were no disregard for oneself and others, one would not engage in wrongdoing. The five, such as dullness, are associated with all afflictions, because all afflictions make the mind unclear about virtue, scatter outwards, disturb the mind, do not delight in virtue, and do not guard the mind against afflictions and the dharmas of the corresponding place. In the scriptures, afflictions have other names and other ways of being taught. What is taught by name is 'all-fettering' and so on, because it binds suffering everywhere, therefore it is all-fettering. Because it does not allow one to do as one wishes in practicing virtue, it is a bond. Because it possesses the seeds of worldly decline and increase, it is latent. Because it afflicts the mind with perversion, it is a near affliction. Because it occurs again and again continuously, it is all-encompassing. Because it is difficult to fathom and carries one in the direction of continuity, it is a river. Because it is a means of wrongly fulfilling desires, it is a combination. Because it closely takes the continuum of the body, it is close-taking. Because it is difficult to untangle, it is a knot. Because it obscures the sight of suchness, it is an obscuration. Because it is not a field for virtuous crops, it is base. By its very nature, it is entirely afflicted.

It becomes defilement by being stained. It is evil because it always harms. It is pain because it is extremely unpeaceful and long-lasting. It is a thing because it is the cause of grasping aggregates. It is misconduct because its nature is wrong practice. It is leakage because it distracts the mind. It is poverty because one does not know contentment with possessions. It is suffering because one is impoverished by desire. It is strife because it brings decline. It is contention because it becomes the cause of strife and so on. It is pestilence because it becomes a great disease. It is called forest connection because it creates various trees of the body. It is said to be an obstacle because it is attached to desirable qualities and obstructs the attainment of transcendental Dharma. In terms of meaning, there are twenty-four types. Among them, the classification of pervasive bonds includes nine types such as attachment. The explanation of the method of combination is: For all of these, it is explained by three ways: by what, how, and to what it is combined. The nature and so on have been explained in detail before, so they will not be repeated. By what is it combined? It is combined by the desire of the three realms. How is it combined? If one has attachment to the three realms, from the perspective of seeing the qualities of the three realms, one will not be disgusted or weary of them, and because of this cause, one will always engage in non-virtuous actions that are the cause of samsara and contaminated actions. And one will not engage in uncontaminated actions that are the antidote. To what is it combined? It is combined with suffering. As mentioned before, because that continuum will cause the aggregates of suffering to manifest and be accomplished in the future. By what is it combined? It is combined by the mind that universally torments sentient beings and so on. How is it combined? From the cause of anger, one does not forget the object of harm, and one does not abandon it. To what is it combined? It is combined with suffering. By what is it combined? It is combined by the seven prides. Among them, the mind is arrogant because of small things such as lineage, knowledge, and learning, thinking that oneself is great, or equal to oneself, or equal to oneself, which is called pride. Although it is measured as it is, it is because it has the appearance of arrogance. Considering oneself greater than those of equal lineage, etc., is great pride. Those who are superior to oneself in qualities such as lineage,
