The three, such as craving for desire, have been explained. Why is craving considered the main one? Because it pervades everything, it is the main one. This craving pervades all things, because it pervades all objects of both obtained and not-obtained realms. Among them, for the body that has been obtained, it is craving. For the body that has not been obtained, it is the cause of rebirth. For the realm that has been obtained, it is possessing joyful desire. For the realms that have not been obtained, one should recognize that joy manifests for this and that. Furthermore, craving pervades all states, because it possesses the three states such as the suffering of conditioning. Among them, in the state of the suffering of suffering, for what has been obtained and not obtained, in order, there is craving for separation and not encountering. For the suffering of change, for what has been obtained and not obtained, in order, there is craving for not separating and craving for encountering. For the state of the suffering of conditioning, there is craving through ignorance, because it is distinguished by the evil abodes of afflictions, and it is distinguished by feelings that are neither suffering nor pleasure. In particular, the alaya-consciousness is the suffering of conditioning, because craving arises from the perspective of delusion about self. It pervades all times, because it follows those three times. For the past, it is followed by the craving of looking back. For the future, it is followed by the aspect of manifesting joy. For the present, it is followed by excessive attachment. It pervades all realms, because the cravings of the desire realm, form realm, and formless realm pervade the three realms. It pervades all seeking, because it seeks desire, existence, and pure conduct through wrong views. By seeking desire, without being liberated from the desire realm, one accomplishes the suffering of suffering right there. By seeking existence, one accomplishes the suffering of change below the third dhyana. By seeking pure conduct through wrong views, one manifestly accomplishes the suffering of conditioning above the fourth dhyana. Furthermore, by seeking existence, one accomplishes suffering in the form and formless realms.

For you, those who seek pure conduct through wrong paths are enslaved by samsara because they are not completely liberated from it. Wandering in all ways is because of attachment to arising and ceasing, hence possessing the aspects of permanence and annihilation. Another reason why craving is the main cause is that desire and attachment are shown as appropriation, which has been extensively explained. In the extensive explanation, among the two, afflictions and the arising of karma, firstly, the brief explanation is: What are afflictions? and so on. That is, the objects to be known, the meaning of afflictions, etc., to be known, are determined by ten things such as number. Among the ten things in the extensive explanation, for the moment, the number is: divided into the five views and the difference of not divided, then it is six or ten. Among them, the six afflictions are: the three of enjoyable pleasure, suffering, and equanimity, entering perversely, in order, are desire, anger, and ignorance. Entering perversely into the sentient being who eats is pride, and perversely grasping as correct what is not inverted, is view and doubt, that is, perverse determination and non-determination. These six afflictions also transform into ten due to the difference of the five views such as the view of the aggregates of destruction. In terms of characteristics, the individual characteristics have already been explained, and when any dharma arises, it arises with the characteristic of making the mind extremely unpeaceful, this is the general characteristic of afflictions. How does it make the mind extremely unpeaceful? It does so in six ways. That is, it makes it unpeaceful through distraction, it makes it unpeaceful through inversion, it makes it unpeaceful through excitement, it makes it unpeaceful through dullness, it makes it unpeaceful through carelessness, and it makes it unpeaceful through shamelessness. Among them, because afflictions such as desire distract the mind towards the qualities of desire, it is unpeaceful through distraction. Because it binds the mind to the state of inversion such as permanence and happiness, it is unpeaceful through inversion. Because it scatters it towards the hateful object, it is unpeaceful through excitement. Because it makes the mind unclear internally, it is unpeaceful through dullness. With outflows
