Birth place and. My birthplaces are also many. Those who commit misdeeds have their eyes cast downwards and walk like crows. Those who are born as gods have their eyes upwards. Those who are born as humans have their eyes straight ahead. Those are also seen by yogis who possess the divine eye. Others see all the intermediate states of other beings in the intermediate state of gods. The intermediate state of humans is not understood by gods, and the three lower realms say that they do not see the two higher ones. Until a birth place is taken, his eye is unobstructed like a divine eye. What is the nature of the intermediate state of existence? It changes according to the appearance of the being who will be born in whatever realm of existence. Because it is propelled by the same propelling karma as that being, they share the same fate. Until a being takes a birth place, there is no obstruction, and it goes quickly like one with magical powers. It will be obstructed in the very place where it will be born. The manner of entering a birth place is like the balance of a scale. The transference of death from the intermediate state and the joining of the continuum in the state of birth are simultaneous. If one performs non-virtuous deeds, such as killing sheep, the intermediate state of beings who will be born in hell will manifest. They will see sheep and so on in their own birth place as if in a dream. Due to the power of previous habituation, they will be very happy with that manifestation and run towards it. Then they will become angry with the form of that birth place. Due to that, the intermediate state of existence will cease, and the state of birth will manifest. He will think, "I will rejoice with this one. I will be affectionate. I will enjoy pleasure. I will also learn crafts." He will fix his mind on that. There he will be tormented by various kinds of harm from perverse karma. He will also be touched by great heat. If it is not like that, if there is no seeing of such a thing, if there is no desire to go there, how could there be going? Even if one does not go, one will not be born there. Just as sentient beings in hell are born as pretas with goiters and so on, so too should it be understood. Animal

I see those beings who are born in other places of birth, such as pretas, humans, desire realm gods, and form realm gods, and who have the same destiny as myself in the place of birth, and I become very happy. Then, as before, I am happy there, generate desire and go there, and also become angry with the place of birth and die, and birth should also be understood as before. When the three conditions are manifest—that is, a place that is impure and has menstruation, where the parents are mutually attached, and where a gandharva is also present—then conception will occur. How does this happen? The being abiding in the intermediate state mistakes the parents as engaging in sexual intercourse in the place of birth where the parents' semen and blood are combined. Having seen that, attachment arises, and birth occurs. If one is born as a woman, one is attached to a man and desires to be separated from a woman. If one is born as a man, one is attached to a woman and desires to be separated from a man. Having generated that, one sees only a man or a woman. The closer one gets to that direction, the more one does not see the other limbs of that man or woman, and only the male or female organ of that man or woman appears to be near. There, the being in the intermediate state becomes angry, and by the power of that anger, the intermediate state ceases, and one is connected to the state of becoming. Therefore, anger, which is a disturbing emotion other than desire, is the cause of the cessation of the intermediate state and the connection to the state of becoming. Repeating this refers to being together with desire. If that being has little merit, then one will be born into a low caste, and at the time of death and at the time of entering the womb, there will be signs of going to noisy sounds, reed thickets, and dense forests, and so forth. If one is a virtuous person, then one will be born into a high caste, and there will be signs of peaceful and pleasant sounds, and of going to palaces and immeasurable mansions, and so forth. Then, at the end of the intense sexual intercourse of the two parents, a coagulation of semen and blood occurs.

Mixing in the place of birth in the mother's womb, like the skin that forms when boiling milk, becoming viscous, the alaya-consciousness, which is used to take the body, accompanied by neutral feeling, will initially enter there, which is the nature of maturation. In the part that becomes indistinct, if consciousness enters there, then that is the heart part of it at that time. Therefore, consciousness will only initially enter the part from which it dies and transfers. Fifth, the way the organs of the four birth places are formed is: after the intermediate state of existence ceases, the organs of the four birth places, such as those born from eggs, will clearly form. Among them, the organs of those born miraculously will form simultaneously without any omissions, while the organs of others will form gradually. Specifically, the way the organs of those born from the womb clearly form is as it appears in the Sutra of Dependent Arising, as it says: "Initially it becomes viscous, from viscous it becomes indistinct, from indistinct it becomes elongated, from elongated it becomes round, from round limbs arise, hair, body hair, nails, etc., and the sense organs with form, various characteristics will gradually arise." Just as it is said. Explaining this in detail: the fetus residing in the womb, after thirty-eight weeks, will have all the limbs and subtle limbs in the womb. Then, after four weeks, it will be born. As the Bhagavan said in the Sutra of Entering the Womb: "That is nine months, or after more than nine months it will become very complete. Eight months is complete, but not very complete. Six or seven months will not be complete, the limbs will not be complete." Just as it is said. In the stage when the six sense bases grow, the thick essence produced from the food eaten by the mother will nourish it. In the stage of being very thin, such as being indistinct, know that the very thin essence will nourish it. The fetus residing in the womb has eight stages, namely: indistinct, viscous, flat.
