Because it has been determined. In the desire realm, in order to make practitioners free from worldly desires, those who accumulate unwavering roots of virtue are temporarily certain to transcend the suffering of suffering itself, etc., so it is lessened. But because it is not forever, it is also not un-lessened. Children of the form realm, if they completely abandon the roots of virtue that accord with liberation, then it depends on the suffering of the upper and lower realms, and it is also intermediate, because it cannot be determined to transcend suffering, so it is not lessened. Children born in the formless realm, if they abandon the roots of virtue that accord with liberation, then it is lessened relative to the lower two realms, but because it cannot be determined to transcend suffering, it is also not un-lessened. For those who are still learning, because they have already transcended the evil realms, moisture-born, and egg-born, it is lessened, and because the time to attain liberation has been determined, such as seven existences, etc., it is the most lessened. For those who are no longer learning, the name and form that arise due to the condition of the life force, only that degree of wandering, place of birth, and suffering itself remains, so it is lessened, and because in that very life they can attain nirvana, it is extremely lessened. For Bodhisattvas who have reached the other shore of supreme mastery, consciously taking birth in samsara for the benefit of others, that is because karma and afflictions have not arisen, so it is not suffering, but because it is shown as appearing to take birth in front of others, it appears as suffering, and because it can eliminate the suffering of immeasurable beings, it also abides in great lessening. Regarding the special explanation that death is suffering, there are five situations, among which the classification of death as suffering is: when the eight sufferings were previously explained, the "death is suffering" that was said, among which there are three types of death, namely having a virtuous mind, etc., these three, because the mind at the time of the final cessation of life is afflicted, so the three, such as virtue, etc., refer to the state before that. Explaining it is: the continuity of the mind's consciousness is clear, either by cultivating roots of virtue such as self-reflection, etc., or by cultivating through others teaching the Dharma, etc., making the mind clearly inclined towards virtue, whichever it is, all of these.

All of these should be regarded as dying with a virtuous mind. When the mind is clear, whether caused by oneself or others, cultivating an unwholesome mind is dying with an unwholesome mind. Whether the mind is clear or unclear, either because both causes of oneself and others are incomplete, or although complete, the mind is also unclear due to the weakness of body and mind, and therefore unable to consciously engage with virtue and non-virtue, such a one dies with an indeterminate mind. Thus, dying with a virtuous mind will result in dying with a peaceful death, and at the time of death, their body will not experience intense feelings of suffering. Dying with an unwholesome mind will result in dying with a painful death, and at the time of death, their body will experience intense feelings of suffering. Dying with a virtuous mind, the visions seen will not be distorted, while dying with an unwholesome mind, the visions seen will be distorted. Dying with an indeterminate mind, etc., is said to be neither dying with a peaceful death nor dying with a painful death. Furthermore, those who commit unwholesome deeds at the time of death will experience the unpleasant results of unwholesome deeds here, and like in a dream, many unpleasant sights will appear to them. For those who commit great unwholesome deeds, seeing those unpleasant signs will cause suffering, and they will make a "putzi" sound, shake their limbs, lose urine and feces, exhale from their mouth, and similar phenomena will occur. If one has committed moderate unwholesome deeds, some of these phenomena will occur, and some will not. The Blessed One, considering this, said: Those who have previously committed and accumulated sinful unwholesome deeds, at the time of death, at the time of retribution in the next life, will descend like the shadow of mountains or mountaintops, descend even more intensely, and will manifest. Therefore, it should be understood that this person is like going from light into darkness. Those who do good, at the time of death.
