Nachena. Children are attached to permanence, pleasure, purity, and self regarding the aggregates of suffering, which is a reversed view. To counteract these four reversed views, the four aspects of impermanence etc. should be taught as characteristics of suffering. Among them, the antidote to permanence is impermanence. The antidote to purity and pleasure is the aspect of suffering, because purity and pleasure are inclined towards a pleasing state, while suffering is the opposite, inclined towards a repulsive state. The antidotes to the self-grasping are emptiness and selflessness. Because some people cling to the aggregates themselves as the essence of self, and some people cling to a self that is different from the aggregates, therefore both are taught. As it is said in the Summary of Discrimination: 'Why should the truth of suffering be viewed with four aspects?' It is said: 'As an antidote to the four reversed views.' Among them, one aspect is the antidote to one reversed view, one aspect is the antidote to two reversed views, and the last two aspects are the antidote to one reversed view. Secondly, regarding the individual essence of the four, first of all, the characteristic of impermanence. In order to explain that impermanence is taught as the truth of suffering by twelve characteristics, the characteristic of non-existence, etc., is mentioned. Among them, the characteristic of non-existence is that, for the nature of the truth of suffering, such as the aggregates, whether in essence, or as a self of a different entity, and what belongs to me, there is no existence at any time, which should be regarded as the impermanent nature of the truth of suffering. Because the word 'not' has the meaning of negation, and the word 'permanent' means all time. The characteristic of destruction is that the formations, after arising, will eventually be completely destroyed and disappear. Change is that the formations will undergo different changes in different states. Separation is that for the internal and external formations, whether the enjoyer himself or the enjoyed wife, etc., due to the power of aging, etc., lose the ability to enjoy, or cannot enjoy.

Losing the power to control, and even if it doesn't become that way, because one's own enjoyment is occupied by other things, one is unable to enjoy oneself. Closeness means: all conditioned phenomena are oppressed by impermanence, which destroys them in an instant from the moment they arise. Dharma-nature means that impermanence will inevitably occur to conditioned phenomena, which is related to one's own cause, meaning that impermanence arises from one's own cause. The definition of a moment is as stated in the Pramāṇavārttika: "The smallest time experienced by an atom is considered a moment." It is like the time it takes for a single atom to flip up and down. When all internal and external conditioned phenomena arise, they only exist for that moment with the characteristics described earlier, and do not exist for more than two moments. The characteristic of continuity is: from beginningless time, all internal and external conditioned phenomena continuously arise from their respective previous causes. The characteristics of aging, etc., are: the body is imbalanced, becomes old, and the lifespan is exhausted. The appearance of various states of mind means: sometimes being in a state of disharmony such as desire, and sometimes being in a state of antidotes such as non-desire, etc., the mind arises in various ways. Gathering means inward. Distraction means outward. Sinking means: being dull and unclear. Grasping means: focusing the mind on things that are pleasing or displeasing. Being happy when playing, etc., before, and not being happy when leaving those, not having attained peace means being disturbed by afflictions and near afflictions. Attaining peace means being separated from those. Meditating on the union of calm abiding and insight. The opposite of this is not being in samadhi. Etc. includes: the mind being extremely subdued, liberation, and non-liberation, etc. The ultimate end of all perfect bodies and enjoyments in the world is the nature of decay and decline. As stated in the Suhrllekha: "Even if one becomes a universal monarch, one will still become a servant in samsara." The characteristics of the destruction and formation of the vessel are: previously flourishing
