Thinking it is enough means: turning back thinking, "This much of the virtuous side is enough." As an antidote to that, it is to continuously cultivate the virtuous side without turning back. Forgetting the key instructions means: not remembering the key instructions for settling the mind. As an antidote to that, it is mindfulness. Remembering transgressions in the mind means: acting without awareness in actions such as going and returning, violating the precepts, and later regretting it. As an antidote to that, it is cultivating awareness. Abandoning diligence means: due to the fault of carelessness, not carrying through with what has been started. As an antidote to that, it is cultivating carefulness. The result of cultivating in this way is: the body being pure, feelings being pleasant, the mind being constant, and abandoning the inverted perception of considering phenomena as self. This is because of cultivating the impurity of the body, and because whatever is felt, it is known to be suffering here. And, because of the differences in location and object, it is realized that consciousness changes from moment to moment. And, because defilements and purification are merely phenomena, it is realized that there is no agent. Furthermore, the results of these are to enter the four noble truths in sequence. Thus, mindfulness of the body enters the truth of suffering, because from that, it becomes possible to thoroughly understand that the body is the suffering of conditioned existence, distinguished by the suffering of change. Mindfulness of feelings enters the truth of origin, because from that, it is realized that the main factor of the origin is craving, which is the cause of the three feelings such as pleasure. Mindfulness of the mind enters the truth of cessation, because from that, it is realized that consciousness, which is without self, is destroyed in an instant, so at the time of nirvana, there will be no fear of the apprehension of annihilation of self. Mindfulness of phenomena enters the truth of the path, because from that, it is realized that defiled phenomena such as attachment are to be abandoned, and pure phenomena such as faith are to be cultivated. The meaning of that is stated in the Madhyāntavibhāga: "For the sake of the suffering of change, and for the cause of craving, and for the place of reliance, and for not being ignorant, mindfulness is established for entering the four truths."

Practice. It is said thus. Furthermore, the result of these is the attainment of being free from contaminated bodies, etc. Because of practicing these, one is freed from the unfortunate states of existence related to the body, etc. The object of perfect abandonment is that which is incompatible and the antidote, both arisen and unarisen. The essence is the diligence in striving to adopt or reject those. Regarding practice, the sutra states: 'One generates aspiration for the purpose of abandoning sinful, unwholesome dharmas that have arisen, not generating sinful, unwholesome dharmas that have not arisen, generating wholesome dharmas that have not arisen, maintaining wholesome dharmas that have arisen, and not allowing them to decline,' and so forth. The meaning of its summary is: 'This is,' and so forth. Explaining it in detail: As stated in the Ornament of the Sutras: 'Relying on aspiration, the yogi meditates with reason. For all perfect abandonments, it is said to be the antidote.' Thus, the basis of diligence is aspiration, because it precedes it. Effort is: the diligence of delighting in meditating on calm abiding and insight, which is also meditating on the faultless antidote by considering the reasons for calm abiding, etc. The sutra's words are: 'Diligence is initiated.' This indicates that the antidote to eliminate sinking and excitement is diligence itself. In this way, under that word, the method of eliminating sinking is clarified by focusing the mind on pleasant objects, etc., and because it mentions the method of eliminating excitement by gathering the mind inward through placement. The result is that the first two perfect abandonments diminish the incompatible side, because these two respectively diminish the sinful, unwholesome dharmas that have arisen and have not arisen. The third obtains the antidote, because it generates wholesome dharmas that have not arisen. The fourth increases the antidote, because it increases wholesome dharmas that have arisen. The object of the feet of miraculous power is the activity accomplished by samadhi, such as emanation and transformation. The essence is samadhi, differentiated based on cause or companion. The actual companion is aspiration, etc.
