By views holding onto liberation, viewing that very thing as permanent annihilation, therefore, that too is entering wrongly into suffering. Among those, viewing the aggregates as the aspect of selflessness and emptiness, is entering wrongly, while holding to extremes is to the aspect of impermanence. The wrong view that the fruits of well-performed and poorly-performed actions do not ripen, and the one-sided views that there are no father and mother, and no spontaneously born beings, are entering wrongly into the aspect of suffering. Whatever is the slander of the truth of suffering by the non-Buddhists, that too is entering wrongly into the aspect of suffering. Whatever is the view of Ishvara, Brahma, and the Lord of Beings, etc., as permanent, etc., that is entering wrongly into the aspect of impermanence. Thus, wrong view is entering wrongly into suffering. Whatever holds a view as supreme, holding those views that have entered wrongly into suffering as supreme, etc., is entering wrongly into suffering. Holding liberation, etc., by means of discipline and asceticism that are in accordance with that view, that is, holding discipline and asceticism as supreme, is entering wrongly into suffering. Those non-Buddhists who are not entirely pleased with the establishment of the truth of suffering, nor do they deny it by saying it does not exist, but rather wonder whether it is suffering or not, and furthermore, whatever doubt they have about suffering, that is, doubt is entering wrongly into the truth of suffering. Attachment to those views, and hatred that completely torments other views that do not agree with them, and ignorance that is in accordance with those views and attachment, etc., and ignorance that is not in accordance with them, are also entering wrongly into suffering. Among these, the first two views, wrong view, and doubt are directly entering wrongly into suffering. The two kinds of holding as supreme and attachment are entering wrongly into what is wrong, anger is entering wrongly by force, and ignorance is entering wrongly in all three ways. Thus, the ten afflictions are suffering

And the perversions regarding the truth of the path, and those to be abandoned upon seeing the truth of suffering. How are the eight afflictions perverted with respect to the truth of origination? The wrong view of those who say there is no cause, and the wrong view of those who say that dissimilar things are the cause, clinging to the belief that things like Ishvara are the creators and givers, and the wrong view of the tirthikas who say that the truth of origination posited by the śrāmaṇa Gautama for the śrāvakas does not exist, these wrong views are perversions of the truth of origination. The clinging to these views as supreme and sacred, etc., and the clinging to vows and practices that accord with these views, believing that they lead to purification and liberation, etc., are also perversions of the truth of origination. The way in which the remaining afflictions, such as desire, etc., and the ultimate of doubt, are perverted should be regarded as before. Thus, these eight afflictions are perversions of the truth of origination, and are to be abandoned upon seeing origination. How are the eight afflictions perverted with respect to the truth of cessation? The wrong view of those who believe in liberation in this very life, and the wrong view that "there are no arhats in the world," since arhats are distinguished by knowing and abandoning, and thus slandering abandonment, and the wrong view of other tirthikas who say that the truth of cessation posited by the śrāmaṇa Gautama does not exist, these are perversions of the truth of cessation. Furthermore, their wrong view of fabricating other aspects of liberation is also a perversion of cessation. Clinging to these views as supreme, etc., and the two kinds of clinging to vows and practices that accord with these views, believing that they lead to purification and liberation, etc., are also perversions of cessation. The remaining afflictions, such as desire, etc., except for anger, are as before. Fear of cessation, and anger that is completely tormented.
