This means 'depending on'. To be completely situated in impermanence, etc., which is the opposite of permanence and happiness, etc., is to attain true wisdom. Not taking on hardships for the sake of others, but being completely disturbed by afflictions, is to strive for a vast accumulation of merit. If one strives in this way for the two accumulations, one will attain the supreme enlightenment of Buddhahood. Transforming unfavorable factors into remedies is twofold. In terms of generosity, it is like 'Again, as it is said', etc. To increase the nature of stinginess is because by abandoning the latent stinginess with its habitual tendencies, its suchness is transformed into abiding, and is manifested. To be completely weary of generosity is because for a long time, one feels weary of giving up cherished things like one's head. To be angry at beggars is because one wants to receive oneself, which is incompatible with begging. Sometimes not giving anything at all is because one is constantly giving away all things. To be far removed from generosity is because one has abandoned impure generosity such as giving to relatives and expecting returns. In terms of pure conduct, it is like 'Again', etc. Not seeking a way to definitely escape from the discrimination of the suchness of sexual activity, other than that, is because one abandons it after knowing it as it truly is. To be negligent in abandoning it is because one is contemplating the means of abandoning non-celibate conduct. To accept the arising of sexual desire is because the desire for desire arises internally and is abandoned externally. To be afraid of its antidotal dharma is because one strives to liberate all sentient beings with its antidotal dharma. To continuously combine two with two is to engage in the two paths of the mundane and supramundane by means of calm abiding and insight, focusing on the four truths. This is the definitive and rich speech from the extensive commentary on the Abhidharma-samuccaya, the Ocean of Good Explanation, which is the explanation of the fifth chapter of the Abhidharma-samuccaya. Third, wanting to explain the name and meaning of the treatise, the question is asked, 'This treatise', etc. The answer is that it is understood and compiled in terms of etymology, that is, the Bodhisattva Arya Asanga.

Because of understanding the absence [of inherent existence], it is called the meaning of "summary." Also, because the Abhidharma Sutra is collected from all places of thought. Also, because it is the place of seeing reality, that is, by means of the non-erroneous method, one can attain Buddhahood. Among them, the first is to eliminate the cause of composing treatises arising from not understanding and understanding in a reversed way, etc. The second is to abandon the place of self-praise. The third is to show that it possesses necessity, excellence, etc. The Abhidharma Samuccaya, composed by the teacher Asanga, is complete. After the yogini, the lord of space, saw the sign of flying in the sky, even if it is not a fully blooming petal, one learns like that. Following the repeated research of the wise men of the past who possessed strong intelligence, although I do not have the qualifications to compose treatises, I composed this treatise because of the encouragement of others. Just as in a place where venomous snakes coil, the light of a lamp is not bright, and in a place where poisonous trees flourish, the power of medicinal seedlings is weak. No matter whose eye of wisdom is blinded by jealousy, this treatise will appear inferior in the wishes of people, and even if it is slandered in various ways, this treatise has no fault. Those wise men who are well-learned, possess wisdom, and are impartial, if they see faults in this treatise, I am deeply ashamed of it. Therefore, the good words spoken about this are all the incomparable kindness of the Guru. If there are any faults, they are all due to my ignorance, please forgive me, wise ones. The merit of striving here is as white as the autumn moon and the fragment of a snow mountain. Slightly obtained, and also all the merits I have accumulated in the three times. Gathering them all together in my mind, I offer them to the glorious Bodhi Top, etc., the Dharma Lord, the assembly of the Sugatas, may their wishes be completely fulfilled. The merit of offering in this way, and also all my other merits. To all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas who are manifestly present in the boundless realms. I offer with great joy, in front of them. May clouds of offerings arise like the manifestations of Samantabhadra. The merit of offering in this way, and also all my other merits.

May I bestow with a mind of love upon all beings as vast as the sky, led by my parents. May they be swiftly liberated from the suffering of endless samsara without effort. May they quickly attain the supreme state of unsurpassed liberation! This work, entitled "The Great Commentary on the Abhidharmasamuccaya, The Ocean of Good Explanation," relies on the well-explained teachings of the wise master Pang Lotsawa Lodrö Tenpa, and on the nectar of the speech of his son, the one who is without rival on earth or the all-knowing, glorious Jangchub Tsemo. Having obtained the light of wisdom on the Abhidharma Pitaka of the Great and Small Vehicles, and also properly distinguishing the meaning of all the Sugata's scriptures, the virtuous Shākya monk Zhönnu Lodrö, who possesses the courage of wisdom that others cannot match, is endowed with the qualities of the heavens such as lineage and form, and is rich in the wealth of the noble ones such as generosity and learning. With the great teacher Namkha Rinchen as the benefactor, at the request of many of his students who uphold the teachings, such as Shar Gyalmo Rongsa Kunkhyen Sherab Özer and Northern Tsongkhapa, the holder of the four precepts, Lobsang Drakpa, it was begun at the great seat of Palden Sakya and completed at the great Dharma school of Pal Ngamring. May this accomplish the benefit of immeasurable teachings and sentient beings! The Lower Part of "The Great Commentary on the Abhidharmasamuccaya, The Ocean of Good Explanation" of the Holy Dharma.
