Or clinging, or slandering the results of immutable karma, etc., are wrong views, and clinging to those views themselves as superior, etc., is holding views as supreme, and viewing them as liberating, etc., is holding discipline and asceticism as supreme. Extreme views also do not focus because they follow the view of the perishable. What is doubt like? It is hesitating about worldly affairs. The afflictions of the higher grounds do not focus on the dharmas of the lower grounds, because they are free from desire for those things. Those who focus on cessation and the path do not focus on those things, because those are to be known individually by the wisdom that transcends the world and the wisdom attained after it. So, what do they focus on? What they focus on is what is completely conceived by it, that is, focusing on the image of cessation and the path that is conceived by oneself. If so, then those who focus on the higher grounds also do not focus on it? The higher grounds are familiar with samsara, so there is only conformity with one's own imputation, but the uncontaminated ones have never been familiar with samsara, so they do not conform to one's own imputation at all, so they are not the same. How does one cling to an object that has no basis as it appears? It is the view of the perishable and pride and those that are associated with it, because those are focused on the self, so there is no object of clinging. Other afflictions, because there is an object to cling to, are therefore based. Association is not that desire is associated with anger, because it is impossible for two extremely incompatible things to arise at the same time. Nor is it associated with doubt, because if one becomes doubtful, the mind has nowhere to rest, so one will not be attached. The remaining pride, etc., are considered to be associated because there is no incompatibility in the objects. Anger is also not associated with desire and pride and the three views, because one who hates with anger will not feel satisfied, and will not contemplate it from the perspective of views. Pride is also not associated with anger and doubt, because one who is in doubt about something will not feel satisfied.

Returning to the topic, ignorance is similar to all other afflictions, because if there is no ignorance, there will be no affliction at all. Some ignorance is also unmixed with other afflictions such as desire. What is that? It is that which obscures and does not know the true nature of reality. When it arises in the realm of consciousness, it is concordant but unmixed with other afflictions; when it arises in the realm of afflicted consciousness, it is not concordant and unmixed, but rather the basis is unmixed or the substance is unmixed. Views are not anger and doubt, because their objects and aspects are different. Doubt is also not the same as the three, such as desire, because they are different. Those that belong to the category of anger, such as anger, are not mutually concordant with the near afflictions that belong to the category of desire, such as stinginess, because, like desire and anger, their objects and aspects are different. Those that are not different should be understood to be mutually concordant like afflictions. Shamelessness and lack of embarrassment are concordant with all non-virtuous minds, because if there is no regard for oneself and others, one will not refrain from wrongdoing. Dullness and the other four are associated with all afflictions, because all afflictions make the mind unclear about virtue, scatter outwards, disturb the mind, do not delight in virtue, and do not guard the mind against afflictions and the dharmas of corresponding places. In the scriptures, afflictions have other names and categories taught by others. What is indicated by name is "samyojana (藏文:ཀུན་ཏུ་སྦྱོར་བ།,梵文天城体:saṃyojana,梵文罗马拟音:samyojana,汉语字面意思:遍结)" and so on, because it binds suffering everywhere to body and mind, therefore it is samyojana. Because it does not allow one to do good at will, it is a bond. Because it possesses the seeds of worldly decline and growth, it is anusaya Because it causes the mind to be afflicted by perversion, it is a near affliction. Because it arises again and again continuously, it is all-encompassing. Because it is unfathomable and causes it to flow continuously in samsara, it is a river. Because it improperly accomplishes desires.

Because it is a method, it is a union. Because the continuum of the body is closely approached and taken, it is a close taking. Because it is difficult to liberate, it is a knot. Because it obscures the seeing of suchness, it is an obscuration. Because it has not become a field for the harvest of virtue, it is inferior. Because its nature is entirely afflicted, it is a stain. Because it constantly harms, it is a sin. Because it is not completely pacified and is far away, it is a thorn. Because it is the cause of holding the aggregates, it is what. Because it is the nature of wrong conduct, it is misconduct. Because it makes the mind distracted, it is a leak. Because one does not know how to be content with possessions, it is poverty. Because desire makes one impoverished, it is suffering. Because it brings decline, it is strife. Because it becomes the cause of strife and so on, it is fighting. Because it becomes a great disease, it is a plague. Because it accomplishes the trees of various bodies, it is a forest combination. Because it makes one attached to desirable qualities and obstructs the attainment of transcendental Dharma, it is called an obstacle. In terms of meaning, there are twenty-four types, among which the divisions of pervasive union are nine types, such as attachment. The explanation of the method of union is that all of this is explained in terms of what, how, and where it unites. The natures, etc., have been explained in detail before, so they will not be repeated. What does it unite with? With the desire of the three realms. How does it unite? If one has attachment to the three realms, then from the perspective of seeing the qualities of the three realms, one will not be disgusted with it or become weary of it, and from that cause, one will practice ultimate non-virtue, the cause of samsara, contaminated actions, and will not practice the antidote, uncontaminated actions. Where does it unite? It unites with suffering, because the continuum mentioned earlier will manifest and accomplish the aggregates of suffering in the future. What does it unite with? With universally tormenting beings, etc. How does it unite? From the cause of anger, one will not forget the object of harm, nor will one abandon it, so it is. Where does it unite? With suffering. What does it unite with? With the seven prides. Among them, because lineage, knowledge, and learning, etc., are small, one thinks of oneself as great, or thinks of oneself as equal or equal to oneself.
