It is for the sake of accomplishment. Determining through skillful differentiation of words and phrases is to teach limitless Dharma through the means of manifestly accomplishing in ways such as two, three, four, etc. Spontaneously accomplishing and completely determining all meanings through mere effort is the wisdom of the Tathagata, which, even without prior effort, allows one to enter the vision of wisdom, unattached and unobstructed, in the instant of effort towards all meanings. Sixth, concerning the determination of speech, there are two parts. The brief indication is "speech," and so on. The detailed explanation is divided into seven parts. First, speech refers to all expressions. Speaking in a marvelous way refers to the sayings that are prevalent in the world. Contentious speech refers to speech that exists in mutual disagreement regarding desirable qualities and views and conduct. Bad speech refers to harsh words exchanged between each other and vulgar words that are not suitable to be spoken in gatherings. Harmonious speech refers to speech that accords with the pure vision of wisdom, well-spoken Dharma teachings, and related topics. Instructive speech refers to "mind," and so on, indicating and speaking for the purpose of comprehension. Second, the grandeur of speech refers to where one should speak, such as: where the king resides is the royal palace, and the place where appointees gather is where the king's appointees are located, and gatherings such as markets, and companions who can be considered reliable, i.e., with words. Those who are accepted as standards by both the debater and the refuter, and the renunciates and Brahmins, those skilled in Dharma and meaning, i.e., those who are well-versed in the words and meanings of the scriptures. Third, the basis of speech refers to what one relies on to accomplish and what one uses to accomplish. What is to be accomplished is the accomplishment of the essence, i.e., the essence of self and phenomena, saying "it exists" or "it does not exist." The difference refers to the difference between these two, i.e., whether it is completely existent, whether it is not completely existent, whether it is permanent or impermanent, whether it is with form or without form, and so on. Regarding the method of accomplishment, the proposition is "I," and so on. If accomplishment is not mentioned, then one's own side is already established, and showing it to others also becomes a proposition. If the meaning one desires is not mentioned, then the words accomplishing the other's side also become a proposition.

Needless to say, even speaking that single word will become like that. Needless to say, understanding, the meaning of the body will also become like that. Needless to say, the teacher, the listeners will also not understand that meaning. Therefore, if established as taught, these faults will not arise. The reason is the cause that makes one believe in the meaning that is not known about the thing to be proven itself, that is, stating the object of direct perception, such as smoke, etc., and non-direct perception, such as actions, etc. The example is seeing pervasion, etc., in other bases, and not seeing, combining and stating the two bases of the subject in the same way as having the sign and the property to be proven. The application is to establish the meaning to be proven with three members, and similarly, for the remaining dharmas similar to that kind of dharma, to say that they are consistent because of the same reasoning in the way of combining the dharma of the established meaning, for example, because there is smoke in a certain place, there is also a change in firewood like fire. The conclusion is that because it is so well established by reason, this is just like that, and it is stated completely in the end. If we give an example of the five members such as the proposition, sound is impermanent, this is the proposition. Because it is made, this is the reason. Like a pot, this is the example. By this reasoning, self and mine, etc., also do not exist, this is the application. Because it is so, sound is impermanent, selfless, etc., this is the conclusion. Direct perception is its own object, form, etc., is substantial, appears directly and is not mistaken. Among them, saying "exists" is to eliminate the fact that the well-known substantial things in the world, such as pots, etc., are not direct perception. Saying "appears" is to eliminate the objects that are obscured by obscurations, etc., and the causes of non-appearance. Saying "not mistaken" is to eliminate whirling fire wheels, illusions, mirages, etc. Inference is the remainder of direct perception, and it is to have confidence in the hidden meaning through the way of the sign. Reliable scripture is to show that the meaning of any application does not contradict both direct perception and inference, as it says in the Commentary on Valid Cognition: Seeing and not seeing
