Whatever exists obtains the name "liberation," for the purpose of being liberated from experiencing its taste. In the realm of yogic practice, the liberation of the sphere of infinite space is as follows: For it, one must be free from desire and focus on space itself. The liberation of the sphere of infinite consciousness is also the same as this; one must be free from desire from it and focus on it itself. The liberation of the sphere of nothingness is obtaining the sphere of nothingness and focusing on the sphere of infinite consciousness. The liberation of the peak of existence is not focusing on others, but one must focus on the cessation of perception as long as the cessation of perception arises. Thus it is said. The necessary purpose of the liberation of the cessation of perception and feeling is to be liberated from the obscurations of perception and feeling. Its nature is relying on the liberation of the peak of existence, completely transcending from the formless peaceful liberation, and ceasing the unstable mind and mental factors, and also some of those stable ones, as previously stated. Since the noble ones abide in these eight, these are called the eight liberations of the noble abiding. Among them, the noble ones abide many times in two abidings, namely the third and the eighth. They are, in order, because they have completely abandoned the obscurations of the liberations of form and formlessness, therefore they are the supreme of liberations. Therefore, these two are fully abided by through bodily manifestation. Thus it is said in the Sutra, but the others are not. Among the eight victories, from which liberation do the three arise? It is said in the Sutra, because of perceiving the inner form as form, one looks at the outer small forms, beautiful colors and unattractive colors, and ugly and beautiful things. By subduing these forms, by knowing and subduing, one looks; perceiving in this way becomes the first victory over birth. Training in the great in this way is the second, and these arise from the first liberation. Because of perceiving the inner form as formless, these two victories of looking at the outer small and large forms in this way arise from the second liberation. Like this, then

It is called "overpowering." Knowing that there is no inner form, one looks at the outer blue form, showing the color blue, like blue, and the blue light that arises. For example, with the Sarma flower or the excellent blue cloth from Varanasi, showing the color blue, like blue, the blue light arises. Similarly, knowing that there is no inner form, one looks at the outer blue form, etc., and sees those forms by overpowering them, and thus understands. This is the fifth source of overpowering. Similarly, yellow is exemplified by the Donga flower, and the yellow cloth from Varanasi is combined, which is the sixth. Red is exemplified by the Bandhujimbaka flower and red cloth, which is the seventh. White is exemplified by the Karma Pabasa star and white cloth, which is the eighth. Such four kinds of overpowering should be understood as arising from one impure liberation. The difference between the two is that the liberations are devoted to transforming the small and other objects as one wishes. The overpowerings control as one wishes, and overpower in order to make the object of nature invisible. The explanation of the meaning of the sutra is: Among them, the forms belonging to sentient beings are small, and the forms belonging to non-sentient beings, such as mountains, houses, etc., are large. Beautiful colors and ugly colors are pleasing and displeasing respectively. The forms of humans and gods are inferior and superior respectively. Knowing those forms by overpowering them means controlling them. Knowing means through the path of tranquility. Seeing means through the path of insight. Thus, understanding, whether overpowering or not, is because one is a knower without manifest pride. Blue is a general term. The color blue is because of the co-emergent blue nature. Showing like blue is because of the blue nature arising from combination. The blue light that arises is that the lights arising from both are bright.
