The last of the three attainments in the desire realm is: there is no seeing path above the three realms. Not being weary, it is from this scripture that the writing begins, because it is said in the scripture that it is finally completed. Therefore, the first three fruits can only be obtained in the body of the desire realm, because the stream-enterer and once-returner have not yet separated from the desire realm's attachment. The gradual one among the non-returners is obtained by relying on the initial effort, while the transcendent one is obtained by relying on the seeing path, because there is no seeing path in the body of the upper realms. The reason for this is also because the body of the upper realms has no weariness, and not being separated from weariness is also for the purpose of having to be liberated from the three realms, so they do not strive to cultivate the noble path. It is also said in the scripture that the five fruits, such as attaining Nirvana in the intermediate state, initially begin to be practiced here and are finally completed there. The fourth fruit can be obtained in the bodies of all three realms. Why is it called stream-enterer? Because it is free from the obstacles to liberation and has entered the stream of Nirvana. Why is it called once-returner? Because it has eliminated most of the afflictions of the desire realm, so there is only one more chance of being born in the desire realm. Why is it called non-returner? Because it has cut off the cause of being born in the desire realm, so it no longer returns to the desire realm. Why is it called Arhat? Because it has conquered all the enemies of afflictions. The classification of the fruits of the ascetic is like this. Now let's start explaining the main text, which has four classifications. The first is classified by faculty, divided into two types: faith-liberated and vision-attained. Those who previously followed faith and those who followed the Dharma are respectively called faith-liberated and vision-attained when they attain the fruit, because they are distinguished by the increase of faith and the increase of wisdom, respectively. The second is classified by meditative absorption, divided into three types: body witness, wisdom-liberated, and both-liberated. The first is: a learner who dwells having realized and perfected the eight liberations, such as seeing forms, with his body. The Kashmiris believe that this is the same as peaceful Nirvana.

It is said that this is because it manifests and abides with a mindless body in cessation. The teacher Vasubandhu explains that when arising from cessation, one thinks, 'Alas, cessation is as peaceful as nirvana,' because the body with consciousness is peaceful, having attained a peace not previously attained. The second refers to one who, through the power of wisdom, has completely exhausted the outflows of afflictions, but is not a meditative person of the eight liberations because the obscuration of meditative absorption has not been abandoned. The third refers to a person who, through the power of wisdom, has abandoned the obscuration of afflictions and also abandoned the obscuration of meditative absorption, and is therefore a meditative person of the eight liberations. Third, there are eight established by entering and abiding. That is, in terms of the first follower, entering and abiding, entering the fruit of stream-entry, refers to a person who has not abandoned the sixth affliction, from the point of having the same intention of ascertainment, up to the fifteen moments of the mind of the path of seeing. Those stages are entering the application of abandoning the afflictions to be abandoned by the path of seeing, which is an obstacle to obtaining the fruit of stream-entry. The Kashmiris believe only in the fifteen moments of the path of seeing. Stream-entry refers to abiding in the sixteenth moment, because having abandoned the three bonds, it abides in the fruit of the state of a fully distinguished renunciate. Incidentally, the other names of the path of seeing are that the path of seeing is, in order, entering into true nirvana, and realizing ultimate truth. Is it certain that in all cases, the fruit of stream-entry is obtained at the end of the path of seeing? It is not so. For example, if one or two afflictions of the desire realm are abandoned, it is called partially free from desire; if three are abandoned, it is called partly free from desire; if six are abandoned, it is called mostly free from desire; if nine are abandoned, one obtains the name of being free from desire for the desire realm. Therefore, if one has previously abandoned the fifth affliction of the desire realm or lower, but has not abandoned the sixth, etc., and therefore is not free from desire for the desire realm, then one enters certainty and becomes a stream-enterer in the sixteenth moment.
