It is because Śamatha and Vipaśyanā are not pure enough. The easy path is to rely on Dhyana, in order to combine the two. Slow and fast realization corresponds to those with dull and sharp faculties, respectively. The path to fully train in the three trainings is the four foundations of mindfulness. Among them, non-attachment and non-anger fully train in higher discipline, ensuring that the training is not diminished by not pursuing attachment and not generating anger. Right mindfulness fully trains in higher mind, and if the object is not forgotten, the mind can be concentrated. Right Samadhi fully trains in higher wisdom, and if the mind is concentrated, one can know the truth as it is. The path to achieve qualities is the path of Śamatha and Vipaśyanā, from which all worldly and transcendental qualities are achieved. The path that summarizes the path is the three faculties. Among them, the faculty of making the unknown known summarizes the path of preparation and the path of seeing. The faculty of knowing summarizes the path of meditation. The faculty of having knowledge summarizes the path of completion. In terms of detailed explanation, among the five factors such as the aspects conducive to enlightenment, the first, the dharmas of the aspects conducive to enlightenment, should be understood as being established in five ways, such as the object of focus. Among these, the object of focus of mindfulness is the four, such as the body. Why are these established as objects of focus? Because ignorant people with inverted minds perceive the body as the object of the self's abode, feelings as the basis of the self's enjoyment, the mind as the self's entity, and dharmas as objects that are defiled by habits and purified by faith, etc. Therefore, in order to reverse these perceptions, the four objects of focus are established. The essence is the wisdom that follows the body, etc., and the mindfulness that does not forget the characteristics of those objects. The companions are the dharmas that are in accordance with these two. There are two types of meditation: meditation with the characteristics of the object and the method of meditating on the antidote. The first is a brief explanation.

These are about the internal body and so on. The detailed explanation is divided into two parts. The first part is about the method of practice, where the object of focus is that the internal body is: the senses such as the eyes, which are included in the internal sources, because they belong to the category of sentient beings. The external body is: external forms, sounds, etc., because they are included in the external sources and do not belong to the category of sentient beings. The internal and external body is: the internal sources such as the eyes, which are related to the external sources such as forms, etc., the senses and aggregates are not different, because they belong to the category of sentient beings and are included in the external sources. Other internal colored sources in the continuum are also the same, because they are the external of the continuum and the internal of the sources. The aspect is to contemplate the body as the body, that is, in conceptual thought, to equally regard the manifested images such as skeletons and complete decay, and the bodies of their respective natures, as impure. The method of practicing the latter three, where the object of focus is that the internal feelings, etc., arise depending on the internal body, because they are focused on the eyes, etc., and arise from their own place. External feelings, etc., arise depending on the external body, because they are focused on forms, etc., and arise from the place of others. Internal and external feelings, etc., arise depending on the internal and external body, because they are focused on the external sources existing in one's own continuum, and the internal sources existing in the continuum of others. The aspect is to say the body, etc., that is, to practice all feelings as suffering, the mind as impermanent, and all phenomena as selfless. The second is the practice as an antidote, that is, to practice mindfulness, to practice having nine qualities such as desire, where non-attention is: the mind is not focused on the object. As its antidote, practice desire. Laziness is not being interested in practicing mindfulness, its antidote is diligence. Dullness and agitation are when the mind is not clear inwardly and scattered outwardly, their antidote is to strive to manifest aspects that are not in harmony with them. Discouragement is: regarding the excellence to be obtained

Discouragement arises from thinking oneself inferior, the antidote to which is the joy of self-praise. Harm fully arises, meaning the danger from the harm of mosquitoes and flies is unbearable, the antidote to which is fearlessness, not caring about harm. Being content with little means thinking that this much virtue is enough, and then retreating, the antidote to which is not retreating, in order to continuously practice virtue. Forgetting the key instructions means not remembering the key instructions for settling the mind, the antidote to which is mindfulness. Breaking vows means acting without awareness in activities such as walking and sitting, violating the precepts and later regretting it, the antidote to which is cultivating awareness. Abandoning diligence means that due to the fault of carelessness, whatever one starts, one cannot carry it through to the end, the antidote to which is cultivating carefulness. The result of cultivating in this way is: the body is purified, feelings are pleasant, the mind is constant, and fundamentally abandoning the inverted view of clinging to phenomena as self. This is because of cultivating the impurity of the body, and because whatever feeling one experiences, one knows that it is suffering. Because of the differences in places and objects, one understands that consciousness changes in each moment. And one fully understands that affliction and purification are merely phenomena, without a doer. Furthermore, the results of these are to enter the four truths in order. Thus, mindfulness of the body enters the truth of suffering, from which one can thoroughly understand that the body is the suffering of conditioned existence, distinguished by the suffering of change. Mindfulness of feelings enters the truth of origin, from which one can understand that the chief origin, craving, is the cause of the three feelings of pleasure and so on. Mindfulness of the mind enters the truth of cessation, from which one understands that consciousness, which is without self, is destroyed in an instant, and at the time of nirvana, there will be no fear of annihilation. Mindfulness of phenomena enters the truth of the path, from which one understands the phenomena of affliction such as attachment.
