If it arises from other causes, then in that case, these (ālaya-vijñāna) will also appear as external and internal forms, and will not transform into the formless realm, because the ālaya-vijñāna has the function of appearing as external and internal forms. Therefore, these formless ripening consciousnesses do not arise from the manifest habit of forms, but from the causal condition of the manifest habit of non-forms such as space, and from the condition of the master of meditative absorption that previously focused on non-forms such as "space is infinite," thereby giving rise to the object of only non-forms. When one dies and transmigrates from the formless realm to the realm of form, the habit of the elaboration of form, which exists as the essence of power in that very ripening consciousness, will fully stimulate its power, and due to the causal condition of that habit, other ripening consciousnesses that appear as external and internal forms will connect with each other. So, in what way do these objects enter? They enter in a way that is extremely unclear, continuous, and of the same taste until the end of life. Why is it extremely unclear? Just as the eye consciousness determines by the power of experiencing objects such as forms, this ripening consciousness cannot fully determine that what it focuses on are the internal receivers and external objects with specific characteristics as mentioned earlier, otherwise, its object will not go beyond these. This is because this is only established through scripture and reason. Why does it enter in the same taste? Because whatever the object and aspect of the first moment of connection in the place of birth, it will continue in exactly the same way until the end of life, and the object and aspect will not change even for a moment, so it is called entering in the same taste. Therefore, it can also be said that the object and aspect are completely uninterrupted. Alternatively, the object of this (ālaya-vijñāna) is without limit, because it always focuses on all external and internal things in every moment. Therefore, this

ī means that the object and aspect are completely without deficiency. The detailed way in which this object and aspect enter is explained in the Distinguishing the Decisive Division, as it says: Among them, what is the establishment of entering through the object? In short, the ālaya-vijñāna enters through two kinds of objects: the internal grasping consciousness and the external world of vessels, the completely non-deficient consciousness. Among them, the internal grasping is the habit of being attached to the manifested nature of the completely imputed, and the form of the sense organs with support. That is also in the form realm. In the formless realm, it is only the grasping of habits. Among them, the external world of vessels, the completely non-deficient consciousness, is the ālaya-vijñāna, which, relying on the object of grasping, constantly and continuously knows the continuum of the world and the vessels. For example, just as a burning butter lamp, the continuum of the wick and oil enters inward, and outwardly produces light, so too, the internal grasping object and the external object should be viewed in the same way as this mode of the ālaya-vijñāna. That object is subtle because it is difficult for even worldly wise people to fully analyze. That object is always present and does not change occasionally. However, relying on the first moment, the consciousness will enter with the same taste until the end of the ocean. The ālaya-vijñāna should be regarded as momentary in relation to the object, and it enters through the continuum of the momentary continuum, but it is not singular. The ālaya-vijñāna should be said to have a small object in the desire realm. In the form realm, it should be said to have an object that is a great cause. In the formless realm, in the sphere of infinite space and the sphere of infinite consciousness, it is an object with infinite causes. In the sphere of nothingness, it is an object with subtle causes. In the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, it should be regarded as an object with extremely subtle causes. Thus it is said. Those of

In summary, as it is said in the Thirty Verses: "That dwells with those who take hold, is discriminating, and non-discriminating." The differentiation of the nature of the self has been explained. After that, what comes along incidentally needs to be examined. For the time being, the manner of entering and exiting of the Alaya-consciousness is, as it is said in the Compendium: "The entering of the Alaya-consciousness is distinguished by four ways, and the exiting is to be known as distinguished by one way. That is, the distinction of entering by object, the distinction of entering by association, the distinction of entering by one cause being one, and the distinction of entering by co-existent things. By those four ways, entering is distinguished, and by one way, exiting from all afflictions is distinguished, it should be known." As it is said, it should be explained. Among them, the manner of entering by object has been explained. Entering by association is, in that very treatise, it says: "Among them, what is the distinction of entering by association? Here, what is associated with the Alaya-consciousness is, the five ever-present mental factors associated with the mind, namely attention, contact, feeling, perception, and volition. These dharmas are also included in the result of maturation, and because they are difficult for the wise of the world to realize, they are subtle, and they constantly enter in association with one object. Among these mental factors, the feeling that is associated with the Alaya-consciousness is uniquely neither suffering nor pleasure, and is indeterminate. In that very treatise, other mental dharmas other than that are also distinguished." As it is said, and the meaning of that very treatise is also summarized in the Thirty Verses as: "Always possessing contact and attention, possessing contact and volition, among them feeling is neutral, that is unobscured and indeterminate." As it is said. The five determined objects are, because the object is distinguished, it is not associated with this, and because this is entirely the result of maturation and indeterminate, it is not associated with other virtuous and afflicted mental factors.
