For the non-learner, there is the naturally acquired virtue of one's own realm, as well as the unspecified ripening birth, the practitioner possesses seeds, the virtues of the two upper realms are acquired through cultivation, and the emanation minds of the desire and form realms, as well as the non-learning uncontaminated qualities, are possessed with mastery. These possess the manifestation of vows. For the non-learner of the formless realm, there is the naturally acquired virtue of one's own realm, as well as the unspecified ripening birth seed, the virtue of one's own realm is acquired through cultivation, and the non-learning uncontaminated qualities are possessed with mastery, and these possess the manifestation of vows. Secondly, regarding the distinctions of possession, there are three, such as possessing seeds. Regarding their respective natures, there are two: actual and specific. Firstly, for the time being, the possession of ordinary beings of the three realms, what is it to possess seeds? It is like "what is it to possess seeds," etc., that is, an ordinary being born in the desire realm possesses the afflictions of the three realms of desire, form, and formlessness, as well as the naturally acquired virtues of one's own realm, because they possess seeds. This should be understood as referring to ordinary beings who have not separated from attachment. Ordinary beings of the desire realm, those who have separated from desire in the desire realm, and ordinary beings born in the upper realms, do not possess the seeds of afflictions and near afflictions of the lower realms such as the desire realm, and yet they do possess them, because worldly antidotes have caused harm, and because supramundane antidotes have not completely destroyed the latent tendencies, in that order. Those born in the form realm possess the afflictions and near afflictions of the form and formless realms, as well as the virtues acquired by birth in their own realm, because they possess seeds. Those born in the formless realm are also said to possess the afflictions and near afflictions of their own realm, as well as the virtues acquired by birth, because they possess seeds. Secondly, the possession of noble ones, for those who have attained the supramundane path that is the antidote to the three realms, for the afflictions to be abandoned by meditation, whatever antidote arises and is born in the continuum for the great of the great category, etc., because the seed of that affliction has been completely destroyed, they do not possess it, for whatever affliction's antidote

Those who have not arisen are possessed by possessing the seed of that. Those who possess power are those virtues arising from application, and even those that are unindicated, some of which, such as the place of craftsmanship and the mind of emanation, are said to be possessed by possessing power. Although those seeds already exist, if the seeds are not fully developed by the cause of effort, they cannot be manifested without effort. What are those virtues arising from application? They are worldly meditations with aspects of peace and roughness, and supramundane meditations with the nature of non-conceptualization in the aspect of truth, and the eight liberations based on them, and the samadhi of heroic conduct, and the samapatti of cessation, and so on. It is easy to understand what it means to be born with and possess. Secondly, those who possess inferior qualities are those beings who have severed the root of virtue with wrong views. It is also said that they possess the seeds of virtuous dharmas, because they can be connected when right view arises again. It is also said that they do not possess them, because wrong views have weakened the power of the seeds of virtue. Those who are destined not to attain complete nirvana, who desire only samsara and do not seek liberation, are always possessed by attachment and all other afflictions, because they have no opportunity to generate the path of liberation, which is the antidote to all afflictions, because they do not possess the seed of the undefiled cause of liberation. Therefore, they are always without the cause of liberation. The commentary says: What is the cause of liberation? It is the dwelling of the afflictions in suchness. In whatever continuum, if one finds the cause that is in accordance with the antidote, which can be well destroyed, that is called the cause because it possesses a share. The opposite is said to be without cause. However, the cause of liberation is the undefiled seed, which has already been explained in detail above. Some sutras, such as the Samdhinirmocana Sutra, and treatises such as this and the Sutra Ornament, speak of the nature of those who are destined not to attain complete nirvana.

If someone harbors hatred towards the Dharma, such as the Mahayana, then, due to that hatred, they will not be able to be liberated from suffering for a very long time. Therefore, the Buddha spoke with other times in mind. But it is not reasonable to say that they will never be liberated from suffering, because there is no evidence that they cannot abandon their afflictions. Therefore, in the commentary on the Uttaratantra, it also says: "Even though beginningless, it has an end. By nature pure, it has the nature of permanence. Unobstructed emptiness, outer obscurations cannot be seen. Just like the form of gold is obscured." All the arguments that cite these as sources are to prove that all beings have the potential to become completely pure. The benefit of being skilled in these is that one will be able to understand the ways in which phenomena flourish and decline, because that is the benefit of being skilled in these. If one understands these, then one will not be absolutely attached to the flourishing and increase of worldly bodies and enjoyments, and one will abandon attachment to flourishing and anger towards decline. The extensive commentary on the Abhidharmasamuccaya, called "The Ocean of Good Explanation," of which the "Compendium of Characteristics" is the explanation of the first chapter of the Samuccaya.
