Because those that become unstated are repeatedly and completely imbued and nourished by the habits that have become the essence of the power to generate fruits that are consistent with themselves and subsequently. What is said to be the "all-seed storehouse consciousness" should be understood in four ways: name, self-nature, establishing scripture and reasoning, and classification. There are also three types of names: those that are known only in the Mahayana, those that are known only in the Hearer Vehicle, and those that are known in both. The first, in the sutras of the Mahayana, are called mind, storehouse consciousness, ripening consciousness, grasping consciousness, and the place of knowable objects, etc., these are all names. Why is the storehouse consciousness itself called mind? Because when the Blessed One said mind, intellect, and consciousness, intellect should refer to the afflicted intellect, and consciousness should refer to the six entering consciousnesses. If this is thought, then a third body called mind other than the storehouse is not found. Moreover, the storehouse is the nature of accumulating habits, so it can be considered mind. Why is it called storehouse consciousness? Because all the pervasively defiled dharmas of sentient beings combine it as the entity of the fruit, or it also combines those dharmas as the entity of the cause, therefore it is called storehouse consciousness. Or, because all sentient beings constantly grasp and combine the view of the perishable aggregate that corresponds to the afflicted mind as self, therefore it is called storehouse consciousness. The first is explained in terms of the seed part of the storehouse consciousness, because all pervasively defiled dharmas arise from the cause of the seed part of the storehouse consciousness, and it is also the causal condition of all pervasively defiled dharmas. Pure dharmas, however, do not combine it as the entity of the fruit, or it is not the entity of the cause of those dharmas, because it is the opposing side and the antidote. The second is explained in terms of the ripening part, because it is constant and unceasing, and consistent with self and dharma.

Because of that. Because by its power, the afflicted mind arises with the aspect of self. If sentient beings cling to it as self, as the ālaya-vijñāna, then why doesn't it also transform into the five aggregates of clinging? Because for those, like the consciousness of mind, there is the view of self, which only occasionally clings to self, but not constantly, because the consciousness of mind sometimes ceases. But for this, except for the afflicted mind and the corresponding view of self in three instances, at all times it clings to the object as self, so it is not the same. Why is it called the Vipāka-vijñāna (resultant consciousness)? Because this is the nature of the complete maturation of the karmic imprints accumulated in the past. Like this, if from birth to death, without interruption, it remains in the nature of being un-obscured and unspecified, it can be considered a Vipāka, then this can only be the ālaya-vijñāna, and not something else. Why does the Vipāka need to be uninterrupted from birth to death? If, like the entering consciousnesses, it occasionally ceases and then arises again, then this is produced by the conditions of this life, and not thrown by the projection of past karma. Those thrown by karma should naturally enter until the force of that karma's projection is exhausted. For example, like an arrow shot, it will not fall to the ground until the force is exhausted. The Vipāka is also not interrupted and then reconnected, if the force of projection is not exhausted, it will not cease, and if it is exhausted, like an arrow with exhausted force, it has no power to arise again. If the Vipāka of other different karmas connects? If that is the case, it is a subsequent birth, and it is not that multiple different Vipākas mature in one birth. Therefore, the Vipāka should be uninterrupted from birth to death. Why is the Vipāka un-obscured and unspecified? If the Vipāka of previously done virtuous or non-virtuous karma also becomes virtuous or afflicted, then being in the Vipāka of virtue, from birth to death, the continuum remains in a state of virtue.
