Now, this is to show that even a short letter has many moments. But it is not to say that each moment is not a letter. For example, just as saying that a tiny sound also has many sound particles, each sound particle will not become not a sound. Therefore, even a short letter like "A", even if it is only produced by the discriminating mind that initiates it, can, by the power of things themselves, produce its result - the sound of "A" which has many moments before and after. Therefore, it is shown that each short letter has many moments, and hearing can also gradually obtain them. If the speaker can utter only the first moment of the sound of the letter "A" that is not related to the later moments, then that is not the letter "A", because the place, action, effort, and intention to express, etc., from which "A" arises are the same, and the similarities and differences of the results are caused by the similarities and differences of the causes and conditions. Otherwise, nothing will become the same or different, because there is no difference in the causes and conditions that lead to such change. If the first moment of "A" does not arise from the place and action, etc., of "A", then the other moments will not arise either. Therefore, either there is no sound at all that arises from the place and action, etc., of "A", or one must follow the views of the logicians and admit that letters such as "A" are not born from cause and condition, but are permanent, self-born entities. If it is not that each moment is the letter "A", but arises from the place and action, etc., of "A", because each moment is not "A", then, is such an "A" one moment or many moments? If it is the first case, then the terms long "A" and short "A" become unreasonable, because one moment cannot be called long or short, etc. If it is the second case, then that is the view I have established, and if you admit that, there is no dispute. If you do not want it to be the nature of one moment or many moments, then the letters are either permanent

Otherwise, it would be necessary to admit that there is nothing. Therefore, the statement 'letters are the essence of sound' is established. Why are collections of names and words of a fabricated nature? Because when many letters are heard by auditory consciousness, the subsequent conceptualization makes those letters heard sequentially by auditory consciousness appear as merely the essence of things such as eyes and forms, and fabricates them as manifesting in connection with distinctions such as permanence and impermanence. Whatever distinction of letters is fabricated by conceptualization as manifesting merely the essence of things such as eyes and forms, that is a name; whatever distinction of letters is fabricated as manifesting the distinction of things, that is a word. So, do the letters themselves not become names and words? No, letters are merely the basis for being fabricated as names and words, but not the nature of names and words, because letters cannot express and clarify the essence and distinctions of things. For example, that which has not had a conventional relationship established with it does not clarify that thing, just as not having established the convention of a horse for something with dirt, etc. Likewise, vowel and consonant letters have not established conventions for the essence and distinctions of things. Moreover, whatever does not appear in the conceptualization that establishes the convention 'the name of this thing is this,' cannot establish a convention for any thing, just as the distinctions of names famous in Sanskrit do not appear in the conceptualization that establishes conventions for the people of the snowy land. Vowel and consonant letters are objects of auditory consciousness, therefore, they do not appear in the conceptualization that establishes conventions. Therefore, names and words are what clarify essence and distinctions, and conceptualization has established conventions for them themselves, and therefore they are the general sound apprehended by conceptualization. In reality, they are not established in any external or internal thing, because external and internal things exist with their own unmixed essence, and therefore are not to be apprehended by conceptualization. Therefore, collections of names and words are fabricated.
