It is to pacify the conceptual thoughts of the self. Therefore, it is said to become without knowledge. In accordance with these, in the root and commentary of the Compendium of the Great Vehicle (Mahāyānasaṃgraha), what is the point of denying that cessation attainment is non-conceptual wisdom? Therefore, this is merely one's own prejudice, without any scriptural or logical evidence. Furthermore, if this is non-conceptual samādhi, then when abiding in it, one must acknowledge the presence of consciousness. If so, in the Thirty Verses (Triṃśikā), the arising of consciousness is: 'Always unconscious, and the two who are in meditative absorption, except for mindless sleep and fainting.' Thus, it is prohibited. And why is it not contradictory to what is said that in unconscious meditative absorption, and the unconscious, mindless sleep, and fainting, these five instances, consciousness does not arise? This bad system, even in the noble land of India, was asserted by a Vaibhāṣika monk named Dignāga, but it was refuted by Master Asaṅga in the Compendium of the Great Vehicle. In accordance with that, Master Vasubandhu extensively refuted it in the Reasoning of Accomplishing Actions. As it is said in that text: 'Some assert that it is a state with mind, for example, the monk Dignāga in the Universal Inquiry says: According to whose view the cessation attainment is without mind, then he has that fault, but according to my view, the cessation attainment is with mind.' Here, the source of the sutra is also taken from 'the bodily formations of one who has entered cessation attainment have not ceased, the faculties have not changed, and consciousness has not left the body.' What kind of consciousness do they think it is at that time? Some say: It is mental consciousness. If so, didn't the Blessed One say that with the mind and the object as conditions, mental consciousness, the contact of the three correctly assembled, and the simultaneously arising feeling, perception, and volition arise? If so, why is it that at that time there is mental consciousness, but the three are not correctly assembled? Even if the three are correctly assembled, why is there no contact? Even if there is contact, what is it?

Therefore, "cessation of perception and feeling" means that there is no feeling and perception. And so on. At that time, there is extensive refutation of the existence of the mind consciousness, which is of the nature of virtuous, non-virtuous, and indeterminate. To summarize: Therefore, you logicians, because you have not understood the meaning of the scriptures as they are, it is considered biased to think that there is mind with the mind consciousness in the state of cessation samadhi and so on. Therefore, when entering into cessation samadhi, there is only the mind of the alaya-vijñana, and there is no other mind. As it is said in the same text: If so, how should it be considered to have mind? It is like how some Sutrantikas think. How do some Sutrantikas think? From the moment of rebirth until nirvana, the continuously flowing ripening consciousness, which becomes different due to different causes of ripening, does not cease at that time. Therefore, that state is called having mind. The other six consciousnesses do not arise, because the power of the mind entering into cessation samadhi and so on temporarily weakens the seeds of those consciousnesses, therefore it is called without mind. There are two kinds of mind: one is the accumulation of its seeds. The second is diverse due to its objects, aspects, and differences. Because the second mind is incomplete, it is without mind. For example, a bed with only one leg is called without legs because it lacks the other legs. That is what is said. Therefore, to think that cessation samadhi is non-discriminating wisdom and so on is to deviate from the tradition of the great chariots. The non-perceptual being, due to the non-perceptual samadhi, becomes one of the other three places of the fourth dhyana, becoming part of the great result. When a sentient being is born among the gods of non-perception, the mind and mental factors are not stable, the wheel of the six consciousnesses
