Ro! Special Vipassanā is the wisdom that transcends the world, because it abandons all the afflictions of the three realms. Why does entering cessation require relying on the mind of the Peak of Existence, which has special Śamatha? Because other minds have very clear activity of feelings and perceptions, so they are incompatible with cessation, while the Peak of Existence has unclear activity of perception, so it is compatible with and easy for cessation. Why does special Vipassanā need to rely on wisdom that transcends the world? If one does not have the wisdom that realizes selflessness, one cannot prevent the afflicted mind, which is accompanied by the fear of doubting self-destruction, and without preventing it, one cannot become the supreme abode of the noble ones who have completely prevented all gross consciousness and feelings. Thus, the sūtra says, "Entering cessation requires cultivating two dharmas. Which two? Śamatha and Vipassanā." Following what is said in the sūtra, these two words are mentioned. Attention is when the noble ones completely arise with gross consciousness and feelings, thinking that they should abide in the supreme abode that has completely prevented all gross consciousness and feelings, so they enter this samādhi, not with the consciousness of emerging from saṃsāra, because for this samādhi, they enter samādhi relying on the mind of the Peak of Existence, and the Peak of Existence is also worldly, so they cannot emerge from saṃsāra, and the noble ones do not have inverted consciousness. Therefore, it is said, "with the attention of the preceding consciousness of Śamatha." This is also in terms of the noble Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas, but Bodhisattvas enter samādhi in order to cultivate the power of samādhi for the benefit of others, and to show others the power of samādhi that has already been cultivated, etc., and the Buddha enters and arises from cessation, etc., due to the power of the aspirations of the past, which are only appearances to those who are to be tamed. The abode is the mind and mental factors, the unstable six aggregates and their retinues, etc.

Thus, in the desire realm, form realm, and formless realm, there are six, four, and one respectively, which are cessations. The ālaya-vijñāna arises without interruption for even a moment until the stages of no-more-learning and non-returning are attained. The afflicted mind also arises in all contaminated activities except for those two stages, cessation, and entering the path beyond the world; therefore, these two are called steadfast. Among those steadfast ones, some are related to the afflicted mind and its retinue. When entering into samādhi of no-more-learning, etc., there is no afflicted mind. Its nature is the cessation of the seven consciousnesses and their retinue, that is, the state of the body of the one entering samādhi, who has caused the seven consciousnesses and their retinue not to arise with the mind of entering samādhi, is what is nominally designated as the cessation samādhi, but in reality, there is no substance. In the Vibhajyavāda, as it is said that the ālaya-vijñāna of the mind of entering samādhi is nominally designated as the state of the seed being weakened. If the basis of designation, the ālaya-vijñāna, is not realized, then the cessation samādhi designated upon it cannot be realized either, so the statement "This bhikṣu has entered cessation samādhi," etc., would be unreasonable in every way. Regarding this, if someone asks: In which realm and in what manner does a being enter samādhi? Regarding beings, in the *Viniscaya-saṃgrahaṇī*, it says: "Here, the śaikṣa non-returner who realizes it with the body, and the aśaikṣa, those liberated from both divisions, can also enter samādhi." As it is said, and the noble Bodhisattvas can also enter samādhi. Regarding the realm, it is also said in the same text: "If the arising ālaya-vijñāna is not separately established, then it first arises here and manifests in the form realm, because manifestation depends on form. If the ālaya-vijñāna is separately established, then it should be observed that manifestation goes everywhere." Here it is said that the support for the arising of the unarisen is the desire realm, and the support for the abiding of the arisen is all three realms. And in this very place, this manifestation in the formless realm
