If it is not done that way, wouldn't it be better? Regret arises in the mind with such thoughts, which is unhappiness and unpleasantness. It arises from a mind that possesses similarity to such unpleasantness. Among them, afflictions belong to the category of ignorance, while virtue and neutrality belong to the category of heroes and wisdom. Bad deeds are regret. Focusing on bad deeds, the mind is displeased, and from the perspective of the object, it is called regret. Is virtue not a bad deed? If virtue is the object, how can it be regret? Because if someone is unhappy about doing something, that thing is a bad deed for him. Otherwise, how can he be unhappy about doing that thing? Regretting not doing good deeds and doing bad deeds is virtue. The opposite of this is non-virtue. Regretting doing or not doing some ordinary things such as crafts and behaviors is neutral. When the action is being done, it is the time because it can be remedied. After the action is completely done, it is not the time because it cannot be remedied. Then, if after committing a transgression, one acts according to the Dharma, can't it be remedied? That is only liberation from the offense, not that the action that has already been done can be Regretting what should be regretted is reasonable. Regretting what should not be regretted is unreasonable. The so-called "having the function of interrupting the mind's abiding" refers to afflictions. The commentary explains it this way, but I don't think it is reasonable. Because whether it is virtue or affliction, whoever possesses this characteristic cannot focus the mind slightly on the object, because under the control of unpleasantness, the mind will shake everywhere and become erratic. For example, when King Ajatasatru regretted doing the five heinous crimes, his mind could not be calmed down until he eliminated the regret. Therefore, I think this should be the common function of all (virtue and non-virtue). The nature of thought is that, relying on the thought or wisdom that can evoke all languages, taking the differences in the nature of beings and phenomena as objects, constantly seeking what this is, because it can evoke all languages, it is the expression of the mind, that

is of a coarse aspect, hence it is called coarse mind. The body of conduct is also the hero and wisdom mentioned earlier. The object is the very nature and difference of the person and dharma produced by conceptualization. The aspect is the mental expression of distinguishing and measuring separately with the aspect of certainty that this is this, which is a subtle aspect relative to conceptualization, hence it is called subtle mind. Those minds that possess these, in order, are not the nature of coarse and subtle minds, because they are not mental factors. Therefore, in the Vibhajyavāda, it is also said that some minds and mental factors in between can be established as conceptualization, which is also unreasonable, because the bodies of both conceptualization and analysis are said in the scriptures to be both mental factors and wisdom. As it is said in the Yogācārabhūmi, what is the body of conceptualization and analysis? Conceptualization and analysis that do not manifestly conceptualize the object are the body of mental factors, and conceptualization and analysis that manifestly conceptualize the object are to be known as the body of wisdom. This is what is said. These two, conceptualization and analysis, do not occur simultaneously in the retinue of one mind because their aspects are contradictory, but first conceptualization with the aspect of seeking arises, and then analysis with the aspect of certainty arises. Therefore, analysis is preceded by conceptualization. Among them, whichever mental consciousness is in accordance with conceptualization is called the seeker, and whichever is in accordance with analysis is called the determiner. Moreover, the famous conceptualization among conceptualizations is, as it is said: Consciousness of whatever object, can grasp sound and meaning, that in that is, that's conceptualization. Thus, it has the characteristic of grasping sound and meaning mixed together, which pervades both conceptualization and analysis mentioned here, as well as all aspects of distinguishing and measuring, such as pride. The determination of conceptualization and analysis mentioned here is this: whatever is conceptualization and analysis, is it also discrimination? Combine with the previous sentence. It is discrimination, but it is not conceptualization and analysis.
