These are not the purpose (of my) speech. Wanting to rely on the aggregates as self also has two aspects: one is holding the aggregates as having the characteristics of self, and the other is holding the aggregates as being controlled by self. The first is limited to thinking that I have the form aggregate, up to having the consciousness aggregate, these five; the latter is also limited to thinking that the form is mine, up to the consciousness is mine, these five. What is called "view of the aggregates" is it based on analyzing with reason whether there is a self in the aggregates, or is it based on not analyzing? What will result from that? If it is like the first case, then the view of the aggregates should not grasp the aggregates as self, because if analyzed with reason, there is no self in the aggregates. If it is like the second case, then it is also unreasonable for the views to be in the nature of contemplating and practicing on the object. Because the view of the aggregates is due to not properly analyzing the reality of the aggregates, but grasping and thinking "this is me." For example, if you analyze a pile of coiled rope, there is no opportunity for the mind of a snake to enter; but if you do not analyze it, the mind of "this is a snake" arises. Thus, the afflictions have been explained. Now, the near afflictions will be explained. That is, in the Compendium of Ascertainments, it says: What are the locations of the near afflictions? That should be viewed in nine ways: namely, dwelling together, talking to each other, gain and stinginess, impoverished living, disrespect for the lama and impatience, decline in higher discipline, decline in higher mind, and decline in higher wisdom. Among these, the first and second are to be understood as arising from the first location. The third and fourth are from the second location. The fifth and sixth are from the third location. The seventh and eighth are from the fourth location. The ninth is from the fifth location. The tenth is from the sixth location. The eleventh and twelfth are from the seventh location. The other twelve arise from the last two locations. Among these, higher mind and higher wisdom will decline from three doors: the door of the sign of calm abiding declining, the door of the sign of grasping declining, and the door of abandonment

It is in the manner of not losing the sign of equanimity. Among them, the first gives rise to dullness and sleep. The second gives rise to excitement and regret. The third gives rise to disbelief, wrong understanding, and the ultimate in investigation. As it is said. Among the nine, the first, the two of anger and resentment, which have a common basis. Anger is the cause of immediate harm, and for sentient and non-sentient beings who are now nearby, focusing on them, the mind is tormented and thinks of inflicting harm. This is part of anger and is nominally existent. This is taking up weapons with the thought of beating or pounding, and binding with the five bonds, etc. In short, it is the basis for immediately preparing harm and has this function. Resentment is after anger, thinking that this person has done such and such harm to me, constantly holding the thought of resentment and not easily letting go. This is part of anger and, like anger, is nominally existent. This is not indifferent to harm, but thinking of retaliating someday, therefore it is the basis of intolerance and has this function. This is preceded by anger, so it is different from anger. Indignation is preceded by this, so it is different from this. The two of concealment and indignation, which have a basis for mutual dispute. Concealment is, for a fellow practitioner who has the same conduct as oneself, not out of greed, hatred, and fear, etc., but for the benefit of that person, advising the venerable one, saying, you have committed such and such a transgression, please act according to the Dharma again, but due to ignorance, not understanding the faults of the transgression, it is part of ignorance, therefore concealing and hiding the committed transgression. It is natural that concealing a transgression will lead to regret. Regret is also associated with displeasure, therefore it is the basis for not being able to abide in happiness and has this function. Indignation is when anger and resentment have manifested and passed, for the fellow practitioner who has the same conduct as the object of anger and resentment.
