Now, thinking about the things related to "self." Some people think that "self" is different from the body. Therefore, wanting to know the current nature of "self," they ask: Are the body and life the same thing? Therefore, the Tathagata is asked through these fourteen ways. Among them, "Are the self and the world permanent?" refers to those ascetics who follow the Samkhya school, who believe that these things have their own nature from the original state and are without beginning. The question is: Is it as they think? "Impermanent" refers to those materialists who believe that these things do not depend on causes and conditions, but arise suddenly and have a beginning. The question is: Is it as they think? "Both are" refers to some ascetics who follow the Vaisheshika school, who say: From beginningless time, the nature is permanent, but since states such as gods and humans are newly produced due to causes and conditions such as karma and time, they are also impermanent. The question is: Is this the case? "Neither is" has the same meaning as the third case, but it is just a reversal of words to negate other views. "With boundaries" means: Will these things eventually be cut off at the end of the future? "Without boundaries" is the opposite of this. "Both are" and "Neither is" can be understood by inference from the previous ones. "Does the Tathagata exist after death?", etc., are questions raised about the liberated "self," and this is also exploring the boundaries of the afterlife. Not exploring the boundaries of the previous life is because as long as the boundaries of the previous life of the samsaric "self" are examined, the boundaries of the previous life of the liberated "self" will also be examined. If so, examining the boundaries of the afterlife is also meaningless, because examining the boundaries of the previous life is enough. But this is not the case, because when some people are in samsara, the "self" enters the boundaries of the afterlife, but when they attain liberation, they do not want to enter the boundaries of the afterlife. And others, even after attaining liberation, want to enter the boundaries of the afterlife. Therefore, it is necessary to explore the boundaries of the afterlife. It is easy to understand that the body depends on life, because life is another name for "self." Others say: The first are the Samkhyas, the second are the materialists, and the third are the naked ascetics.

The fourth school considers it to be the view of the Vātsīputrīyas. Although it is said so, I do not think it is reasonable. Because the third and fourth schools are only different in terms of letters, and there is no difference in meaning, as it is said in the Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra, it is unreasonable to be the same as the views of the Śrāvakā Vātsīputrīyas and the Vaiśeṣikas. Moreover, the last two schools also become the views of those two people, and all these fourteen schools become the heretical sages asking questions based on their own views, which is also unreasonable. Furthermore, what is the difference between examining whether the world has an end or not, and examining whether the unexplainable has an end or not, among the sixty-two views? Regarding this, the former is merely the meditator relying on the direct perception he has obtained, examining the time of the previous end and the end of the region of the external vessel world. The latter is merely the speculator relying on other sounds, wanting to examine the end of the later time of both me and the world. In addition, the former is a form of certainty that relies on meditation-born, and the latter is a form of uncertainty that relies on hearing and thinking. In order to abandon all such forms of views, the Tathāgata completely abandoned the extremes of permanence and annihilation, and based on the profound dependent origination, turned the wheel of Dharma. As it is said in the Mūlamadhyamakakārikā: "With great compassion holding close, in order to abandon all views, proclaiming the supreme Dharma, Gautama, I prostrate to you." What faults did the Blessed One see, so in the sutra it says: "Form, etc., up to consciousness, should not be truly seen as me. One should not truly see me in form, etc., form, etc., in me, me different from form, etc., form, etc., without me." How does he clarify the self in the aggregates, elements, and sources with five aspects? Because the Blessed One saw the five faults of clinging to form, etc., as me, etc., with the view of the perishable collection, he clarified the self in the aggregates, etc. What are those five faults? The fault of not conforming to the characteristic, and
