From...begin, the eight that consider "I" to be with or without limit, neither both nor neither, and without perception. The eight that claim neither are: to the previous eight, add the eight that say "it is neither with perception nor without perception." The seven that claim annihilation are: beings in the desire realm, gods, beings in the form realm, and the four formless abodes, these seven. Until death, they are accompanied by illness and suffering, and various torments, but after death, they claim complete annihilation. The five that claim liberation in this very life are: those who believe liberation comes from indulging in the pleasures of desire without restraint, and those who believe liberation comes from attaining the four dhyanas. These mostly pertain to speculation about the future, and therefore are views that speculate on the extremes of future existences. A brief summary of these is: sixteen of those who claim perception exists, eight each of those who claim it does not exist and those who claim it is neither, seven of those who claim annihilation, and five of those who claim liberation in this very life. Where are these five categories gathered? If considered from the perspective of their own nature, they are extracted and established from the views of clinging to extremes and wrong views. If considered from the perspective of cause, effect, and complete essence, they are extracted and established from all five views. This is because the view of the aggregates of existence is the cause of all of these, and the views of self and holding to vows and precepts are their results. If someone asks, which of the five views should the fourteen views, which are not explicitly stated in the scriptures, be understood to belong to? If analyzed from their definition, they are extracted and established from the views of clinging to extremes and wrong views; if analyzed from their scope, they should be understood as extracted and established from all five views. So, what are these fourteen unstated views? As stated in the Root Verses on the Middle Way: "Views regarding the past, future, limits, etc., and permanence, etc., depend on nirvana and the later extreme, and rely on the former extreme." Therefore, the four views that rely on the former extreme are: 'I' and the world are permanent, impermanent, both permanent and impermanent, neither permanent nor impermanent. The views that rely on the later extreme are: 'I' and the world are finite, infinite, both finite and infinite, neither finite nor infinite. The four that rely on nirvana
